Right I had to send one I bought back as it was 20W too weak apparently (not that it seemed to make that big a difference). While talking to the AMD support line about a processor I had just bought that wasn't working (now found to be DOA and RMA'd) the help desk had a look at the rest of my system, and noticed that apparently my ATi Radeon HD 4670 needed 400W to run. I was a bit pissed as I had just bought a 380, so I sent that back too in order to buy a new one.
I am now having a tough time deciding which PSU to go for, I know what to look for in terms of Wattage, but no in Amperage (I read that thread about PSUs). I have narrowed it down to two possible choices, and on they aren't low quality no-branded ones :v:
OCZ Stealth Xtream 500W PSU
Coolermaster 460W eXtreme Power Plus PSU
I am not too sure what exactly I would be needed in terms of power, but this is not a choose for me, just a advise me, would the OCZ one really give me that much difference (other than it being more viable to salvage for a future build), or should I just go with the slightly cheaper 460W Coolermaster?
Why did you believe them about the power supply? Assuming that 380W was of decent quality you would have been just fine.
The 4670 is designed to run in almost anything...it doesn't even need the extra 6 pin connector. You'd be hard pressed to even see the computer peak at 250W with one of those in.
Fair enough...wish I hadn't sent that back in now.
EDIT: Maybe the assistant misheard me and thought I had said another model...whatever, I think I'll see if that one I had last time is in stock, it seemed good enough.
Was the 380W an Antec Earthwatts?
That could have easily handled a 7750/4670 system.
Yeah, that was the exact one actually. I might get it again as it seemed fairly decent. Also I hope they don't rage as I never sent the power cord back with the PSU by mistake. :downs:
