That's not bad at all. Well, obviously it'd be better if you could just plug it in and go, but still.
Yeah, not much of a surprise. I do agree with the article though, if you were a kid on Christmas morning, it would be much less exciting having to wait for it to update first. It ruins the momentum.
I wonder if his estimate is taking the Sim City Effect into account [editline]8:28PM[/editline] Why the boxes? Server load is a legitimate concern on launch day, and unless Microsoft is prepared for it, a lot of people could be stuck unable to update for a while.

Just checking ur internet there buddy. but seriously, what could they have possibly forgotten?
So what happens if you never plug in the ethernet cable (haven't owned a console in ages).
It won't let you do anything until the first update is installed. After that it can be disconnected.
So what happens if you never plug in the ethernet cable (haven't owned a console in ages).
It refuses to take you to the dashboard or let you do anything I presume

Not a fan of the XBone but you can't really fault them for this.
The same thing happened with the wii U
The Wii u took at least an hour
Well, maybe if they had that "welcome to your new xbox" video sort of thing like they did with the Xbox 360 and played that while it was installing it wouldn't be so bad.
Xbox One was going to be a piece of shit when they announced it and its still gonna be a piece of shit.
What's the point in posting in an article to tell everyone how much you hate something? No one cares.

The slideshows that some games would show you got me more excited for the game than i'd have been if it had started immediately.
The same thing happened with the wii U
I swore it was optional though, but you literally had no online options if you declined it. I could be wrong though.
When I bought my Wii U I had to sit around for about 30-40 minutes for the updates to finish.

I could be wrong though.
It was optional but your right about it not allowing online options if it was not downloaded/installed.
When I bought my Wii U I had to sit around for about 30-40 minutes for the updates to finish.
It took me about 20 minutes to download it. At first it said it would take a hour, but cancelling it and restarting the system fixed it.
This is more just indicative of how little advantage consoles have over PCs anymore, they are just PCs that have been heavily locked down.
This is more just indicative of how little advantage consoles have over PCs anymore, they are just PCs that have been heavily locked down.
Not exactly, let's take the PS4 for example, if I were to choose between that, or building a new PC I'd be better off going with the PS4, on decent processor and a relatively new videocard I'd already be way above the price of the PS4, the only thing I dislike about it is that the games are far more expensive on consoles compared to PC.
Just be glad only people in half the states will have to deal with this, hopefully when they ship to the other half of the US they have the updates already installed

It would be better if they shipped the latest firmware on the game discs.

I wonder if they will do the "Update on Disc" thing that the 360 had. Some games would come with a dashboard update needed for the game to run so you never had to connect to the internet. Maybe not with launch titles, but who knows.
