pretty much the same for me
oddly enough souls 2 pvp was inviting. This is because fights were very mutual and oddly trusting. Despite being pretty agressive, at least among invaders and hosts
It's having time as well that and most of the competitive games are in the US with like 5 ping compared to your 400 ping.

Yep, same. I'll happily co-op for days but really can't be arsed with competitive games.
One of the few exceptions is TvT stuff in Arma, but that's very different in terms of pace, atmosphere and community.
I still like story-driven games with a good atmosphere the most. Most competitive I've played was CS 1.6 and WC3 back in the day. Usually ends up me playing Deus Ex and System Shock 2 every year..
Oh yeah, also angry spastic 14 year olds and angry russians.

I feel like PVP in souls game has a mutual respect for each other, you've both stuck with it and fought through countless deaths.
Or maybe older people just want to enjoy their time and not spend it worrying if your carry can farm/ Do X properly, obviously thats geared towards ARTS, but i can't think of a more competitive game atm.
I haven't really been super competitive since UT2004. I still play tf2 and whatnot, but have not REALLY been into it. Most of the games are slower paced these days, or you have to rely on your team too much. I prefer the faster paced ones that require speed, skill, and a steady hand.
Part of it is the time you have to sink into stuff like that. I like character progression in WoW and do what I can, but I have no interest what so ever in pouring time into raiding anymore. Last couple expansions I fell off the pvp wagon as well.
i don't even like games outside of local splitscreen stuff anymore, and i haven't even passed my 20's yet :pudge:
Yeah, I'm really not into purely competitive games & the competitive game scene.
I just want to have a fun time & getting better at my own pace while playing with others.
Global rankings and all-time leaderboards means nothing positive to me.
Too bad with the explosive growth of the competitive scene that's pretty much impossible without being a member of a closely knit community.

the lack of text chat and team gameplay really helps
the lack of text chat and team gameplay really helps
I can't imagine text chat in a souls game
"Hey do you like to roleplay :3"
the lack of text chat and team gameplay really helps
There is no stronger bond between men than the one forged by being able to communicate only through emotes, crouching, waving your weapon around, and short voice commands.
Yeah,im not really interested in competitive or else like that.
Also,as Veger said, its pretty toxic if you are an outsider.
When i was young,i played an online games, that host server war event (Basicly, the server act as "country" and your job is to kill as much as you can in other server) every weeks.
Guess what? you guessed it,the chat section filled nothing with insult, rant, shaming, etc during the event
this makes total sense, coming from about 4k hours of dota and an incredible amount of call of duty 4 back in the day, kids are more susceptible to want to be better than their peers but companies at the same time focus on making games that require a team to win so it creates this hilariously toxic atmosphere that people with real responsibilities dont feel like dealing with it anymore

I like competition in games like path of exile - it's an arpg with a dedicated hardcore community that spams "hahaha RIP" when you are destroyed after 20-30 hours of game
but it's your fault
also why I like fighting games, noone else to blame but you
Rage aneurysms get old after a point.
honestly whenever i play competitive games i just end up not having fun because i'm not winning, or fucking around so hard everyone else rages.
you'd be surprised what a shitstorm you can create by saying "putin 4 prez" in a match wide chat.
As much as I love Overwatch, I don't have the attention span for competitive. I already get fucking retarded teammates with enough extra chromosomes to form another teammate, I can't imagine how much angrier I would be if now the stakes were higher and I had to play with them for more games.
When I was younger I enjoyed competitive games.
Now I don't have time to get as good as those 15 year olds who spend every waking moment playing.
I prefer an original game with an interesting story that doesn't shove multiplayer down your throat.
Well im over 25 and i still like competitive shooters and skill aint got dick all to do with it, it's the attitude and mentallity of people i have to play with that puts me off.
I now don't say GG at the end of games even though i sincearly mean it because I don't veiw it as a sign of respect anymore, I see used as a 'diguised' put down / insult.
Anyway, i still play comp games, when i got friends to play it with and i just block comms with the enemy team cause they won't say anything i give a damn to read.
I'm 24, can't remember the last time I played an online game not with friends. And even with friends it's slim because we are busy at different times. I like story games or local multiplayer games (which makes me thankful for my Wii u library)
(Without having read the article) yeah I can see why. When I'm coming home from a hard day at work, or after having fried my brain at uni, I really don't want to become focused enough to play something competitive. I just want to relax. Even just playing a relatively non-competitive game online can become stressful.

'GG' before end of game is disrespect the way I see it.
After game, it doesn't really mean much.
i like to play games online but never competitve modes. i don't want to worry about doing well, just go at my own pace. i can get really into it and competitive while playing, especially if i get a good killstreak going, but that usually only lasts as long as don't notice how well i am doing. like in bf4, if i am getting two or less kills between deaths i'm like "yeah whatever" but if i start getting 5, 10 or so kills in one life i become hyperattuned to the game and really paying attention to what i am doing. as soon as i start thinking "oh shit i am actually doing well" i get cocky and die. but there's no stress once i do, just a nice feeling of "damn i was going good there". i don't get that when i do competitive modes. i feel like i am letting my team down when i am shit.
I only really had an interest in competitive games between the age of like 15 and 20. I still may play something PvP on occasion like some Overwatch, but not preferably. And I refuse to touch ranked modes.

having someone on your own team say GG before a match ends is obnoxious because you know they're just not going to try anymore. It's really maddening in overwatch particularly because that game makes it REALLY easy to turn around a match, even when it's at like 99-0 on a KOTH map
I'm the opposite. Over the past few years I've found myself appreciating gameplay systems and mechanics far more than I used to, and as a result games with a heavy story focus have become significantly less appealing. I've always played competitive games, but these past few years have been really enjoyable for me with stuff like Titanfall, Street Fighter, Overwatch, and Rocket League eating away at my play time in a big way.

There's no language barrier when the only word anyone can say is "Hey!"
I used to be interested in competitive when I was 16 but that was many years ago and lost its appeal to me.
