• Did the PS3 have issues with 1080i?

So now that I have a (free but with color distortion) TV that can handle HDMI and I bought an HDMI cable to link it to my PS3. This is when I discover that my TV only handles 1080i and not 1080p. Fuck. Anyways, I setup everything and pop in GTA IV and...woah. I'm getting artifacting, glitching and overall completely insane graphical glitching (the trees extend far into the sky). I assumed this was just GTA being GTA so I fed it the orange box. Same ordeal. Some models were not scaling right and a good example was the antlion grubs with immensely long teeth that you can only see from one side. I switch back to good ole 480i composite video, the problems went away. Okay, since HDMI is digital and not analog (thus a connection fault would mean the cable either works or it does not), the problem should not be with the cable. What on earth is going on?
Well you got the tv for free why are you complaining? [editline]10:26PM[/editline] Did you try 720p?
I'm complaining because my games are glitching like hell. I can live with the giant yellow splotch on the screen. No, I have not tried 720p yet. I'll try it after I can gat at the TV.
not to my knowledge. I have a 1080i projector and it's been playing my PS3 games and movies just fine.
no the ps3 doesn't have any problem at all with any of its video options from 480i to 1080p
The PS3 handles 1080i just fine, something is either wrong with your TV or the cable.
The TV and cable are fine, they wouldn't cause artifacting like that. Sounds like the GPU is going. Perhaps heat issues associated with rendering HD resolutions. Is it under warranty?
Get a proper HDTV.

It had the heatsinks blown out monthly mind you as I knew that F@H thrned it into a space heater (which made the room nice in the winter). My warranty expired in April.
Get a proper HDTV.
I would once I can afford a 46" LED tv. For now though I'll stick with this 46" rear projection LCD tv that cost more in gas money to get home than what it cost to get it off a front lawn. Also, Hitachi is a bitch and will not fix my Light Engine whose color issues have stemmed into a class-action lawsuit.
GPU overheating
Ps3 has no problem with any res, though OP, IMO 720p looks better than 1080i
Borrow someone else's ps3 and test it.
do 720p
