I don't want to see gaming end up like movies, where most of the first fifty years' works have been lost to time. Yet with the way things have been going in recent years (DRM, DLC, required online components, etc), I do believe we are going to end up with a large gap of games that are just *gone* in the future.
Just look what happened with SafeDisc DRM; Microsoft decided not to support it anymore, so if you have an updated Windows 7 or 8, you have no choice, but to find a No-CD crack or mess with Windows drivers. And on 10 a crack is the only option. And many developers either don't care to fix it, they simply went bankrupt or the game IP is held hostage somewhere.
Emulation is preserving history. It's like saying that we shouldn't be able to copy [physical] keys because someone might use that ability for burglary. It's fucking stupid. Go after people using the device to actually commit crimes instead of everyone else who's doing nothing wrong and just wants to play DK64, Zelda:OOT, Mario 64, or mario party 2, etc, without having to track down a system and a horribly overpriced cartridge. If someone can buy the game via your new services, then that's great, but there are so many great games that have absolutely zero first party support anymore. They're getting rarer, and they're going to disappear if we keep cracking down on emulators and enthusiasts who aren't actually hurting your fucking business by getting a rom of a game cartridge that hasn't been able to make your company money since the mid 90's or so because no first/second party fucking carries them anymore.

It looks like a terrible Minecraft HD mod.
I think of it as competition depending on the scenario
Nintendo combats it the wrong way. They think of it as a legal matter however if they sold more systems like the Snes Mini they could make a huge profit
I would bet money that a massive number of people want an Original Xbox or PS1 with none of the hassle, so they use emulators instead. an "Xbox Classic Mini" or "PS classic Micro" would SELL
[editline]29th March 2017[/editline]
Hell, just sell a system with 60 "Classic" titles and a slot for SD cards and have it read ROM/ISO files
if they offered the creators of emulators a job I'm willing to bet they'd make a good lump of money.

Piracy with emulation is a service problem pure and simple. The current approach is like the music industry still selling on CD as opposed to doing streaming and selling on MP3 and FLAC. Of course its going to get pirated to shit.
