• Internet is fucked after windows reinstall

So I finally got a cable for my new SSD, and got around to installing windows on it. Unfortunately, the internet is fucked. I have no idea why. When it starts up it spends a little while 'identifying' then network before giving up and just saying it has 'no internet access' In this situation no network function, pinging, filesharing etc works. Checking my router's log revealed a plethora of DHCP errors,so I setup the machine to use a static IP. IN this mode, the little error triangle on the network icon disappears, and I can ping the PC from other PCs connected to the network, however I still cannot access the internet. Looking at the light on my ethernet port the green pulsing light isn't there, however the amber light is, though it's pretty much constantly on despite flashing off every few seconds. On my router, the light for the ethernet port my PC is connected to is amber and is flashing, though at a slorwe rate than normal. The fuck is going on here? [editline]21st November 2010[/editline] Scratch that, the 'DHCP' Failed' entries in the error log were from weeks ago. I tried the cable in my laptop, it connects perfectly, so it's obviously a problem with my PC. I refuse to admit that I've broken it. With a static IP the PC shows up in the router settings page as being connected, though it cannot determine the device's name. [editline]21st November 2010[/editline] I'm downloading a linux mint CD to see if I have actually broken the ethernet port. [editline]21st November 2010[/editline] Nope, Mint didn't work either. I did turn off some onboard devices in the BIOS though, I'll try that as a last resort before being forced to buy a fucking PCI network card. [editline]21st November 2010[/editline] Well that didn't work either. Time to buy another NIC then.
Oh fuck off, I left my PC off overnight and the internet works again. What the shit.
