So I'm upgrading, and I'm wondering if I can copy the steam game files over to W7
If so, how should I go about doing it?
Where did you install steam?
Should add I'm on XP.
I guess it's the default location
Use the backup game option, have an external drive to backup onto.

Actually, for Garry's Mod and the like just copy over your whole Steam folder in Program Files.
Well currently all I have downloaded is portal, HL2 and Lost Coast.
The backup game is in right click menu?

Also, how do i get them back into steam after the upgrade?
I know about the non steam button, but they are steam games so?
Or you could just start installing 7, choose "Clean Installation", and then when choosing where to install, choose where XP is but [B]DO NOT FORMAT!!![/B]
The installer will move EVERYTHING to a folder called Windows.old.
You can then just move all your stuff back out and viola!
copy the gcf files in [steam dir]\steamapps
