So for the last 2 years or so my laptop has been having weird issues. It keeps slowing down and sometimes randomly turns off, I keep finding references to drives that don't exist under recently accessed files such as E:/ despite my computer not having an E drive, as well as Chinese names of folders that don't exist. In the last few years, I've had strange things happen to me like someone from Taiwan trying to log into my Facebook, I've received e-mails telling me that someone with a Chinese name tried to use my E-mail to set up a PayPal account. No anti-virus software has ever found anything but I don't believe that there isn't something wrong. Am I right in being suspicious and if I'm right, what do I do?
It looks pretty much like you got some viruses or trojans or a rootkit even ( those shit are nasty )
Some antivirus programs can be easily hijacked. Never only have one antivirus program on your PC.
Here's my usual verification/elimination process :
- Scan for rootkits using Kaspersky TDSSKiller
- Scan for rootkits using Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit
- Scan using SUPERAntiSpyware
- Scan using Hitman Pro ( you don't have to buy, use trial )
- Scan through your usual AV ( Preferably avast or avira )
Don't bloat your computer with a fuckton of AV software...
But that does sound spooky. I take it you don't want to reformat your entire drive but I would probably use another computer or your phone and change all your passwords, honestly.
It's not about bloating the pc with shitload of AVs, in fact I've only mentioned one antivirus.
There are some things that Hitman pro can detect and remove that superantispyware can't and vice-versa,
same goes for other tools. Going through this whole shitty process helped me solve some really weird
issues with my pc.

I scanned using Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit and Hitman Pro and neither found a Trojan or a Rootkit, Hitman pro found a load of things entitled "Babylon" whatever that means but nothing significant.
I'm currently Scanning with my own Anti-Virus AVG.

Babylon, as in the Babylon toolbar? Holy shit how old is that thing now? About time that thing got deleted.
I also had Babylon, good old shit that kept pumping and installing new spyware without my permission or whatsoever.
Can't remember if Hitman Pro was enough to remove it or not =/

I don't know, I never noticed anything by the name of Babylon toolbar in any application I used.
Latest babylon is more than a toolbar, be warned
So was Babylon the problem? If not what do I do next?
Hitman pro, adwcleaner, super anti spyware and revo uninstaller in that order.
Only connect the pc to the Internet to get the programs, updates and for hitman pro.
