Winamp 5.621's media library has arbitrarily stopped displaying. In place of where the artists and tracks should be is a big blank grey space like somebody's come along and boarded it up. There was no warning or omen, not even an install or program modification that might have indicated a cause, to the best of my knowledge (does running Vista count?)
The program itself retains every other function, it can still play music if tracks are loaded individually and it does all of it's other fancy tricks. It just won't display what music I have. Individually loading files gets tedious after a while.
After Googling it was suggested that I install a fresh version. This changed nothing, unfortunately. So far I've found no working solution and I've come up with nothing on my own. Has anyone encountered a similar problem or knows of a fix?
You could try a different music player, there's many out there that would suit your taste and not be unstable enough to not display a list.
I use cmus and the google beta music player.
Getting a new media player is an option to consider, I've become quite attached to Winamp though, before jumping ship I want to see if there's a way to fix it.
I fixed it eventually. It turns out that main.idx (AppData\Roaming\Winamp\Plugins\ml) was corrupted or some such madness and it just needed to be deleted so that the local media data could be rebuilt.
