So, I've been having some trouble with my PS2 console recently. It can't read any games I put in it, even ones that haven't been played before.
When I insert the disk, the normal spinning sounds are made but then it makes some strange scraping noises and the game refuses to read.
I have a slimline PS2 and I have cleaned the lense, any more ideas?
I can give more information if needed, my brother just really wants to use it.
The laser has broken, it's a common fault with the PS2's.

That would make sense but why does it sound like the disk is scraping everything inside the PS2? wouldn't it just make normal sounds if the laser was the problem?

check your gamedisk.
If it's horribly scratched, the the lens (and game) is broken.
That happened to me on my second revision ps2 fat.

I've used over 20 different games, all of them completely clean. I even sold all but one of my games because of this problem. I can't sell the console though since it won't read disks.

Happened with my ps1 when i accedentially crushed it slightly. I fixed it by playing it upside down... Try that maybe?
There are three inevitable things in life:
1) Death
2) Taxes
3) Playstation Laser failure.

I've had my PS2 since it came out, no problems with the laser.
Well he has a PS slim. Compact may look cool but is never always the best. The only problem I had with my PS2 is when I first got GTA: VC I put the game in and played it, it never came out of the system, and then one day it kept freezing, I opened the disc drive and looked at the disc, there was a huge crack in it. (Since the day I put it in, I never took it out.)
PSslim just pooted on you, I'm assuming unless someone else knows something else.
Run a lense cleaner through it. Now if you have the PHAT model. Take the top part of the casing off. Put a disc in. If it spins, the Lense is picking it up. But mabye to dirty to pick the disc up. Anough to see the disc. But not anough to see what it is.
Well, I was tired of it being in my room so I put it in the attic. I'll deal with it when I can be bothered.
Also, the lense cleaners don't work either, I had one that I tried a few times.
the problem is that it is ps2
my first ps2 slim had this problem. its the laser.
Weeee my launch PS2 still works fine, I use it when friends come over since my PS3 only has 2 controllers. I'm really surprised it hasn't fucked up at all...
