Valve must be really nervous about everything about the next Half-Life game at this point.
Valve knows what the fans want, a surprise.
They're so secretive about it, so they're working on HL3.
And i myself love how they take there time producing and being so secretive about it.
it wouldn't be fun if we knew everything and then we'd just get disappointed when it gets delayed again

It's not about taking time, we'd love for valve to spend as much time on the game as they need to. But leaving their fans in the dark for this long is a little frustrating, especially after leaving ep2 with a serious cliffhanger.

Not asking for a release date, just some information. RTFA
Instead of releasing information little-by-little, they're going to shoot it all us, all at once, with a cannon. People say that they no longer have interest in it, but I know for a fact that almost every single person will buy it.
Valve has a passion for quality over quantity, and since they're in no rush to release it, they're going to make it as perfect as they can. And we all know Valve perfect = potentially the best game in the planet.
In addition: This message is in no way, shape or form attempting to rush the development of the Half-Life series; in fact, most members agree that Valve should take the time needed to deliver a complete and polished product.
I barely think of the next Half Life game anymore, but I know in my heart that I will get heart attacks and boners of excitement when it is finally announced.
If they could just confirm if its for 2012 or 2013...That would do alot imo.
The game's going to be held to really high expectations once it's released.
Dammit Valve, are you trying to repeat the Duke Nukem mistake?
Dammit Valve, are you trying to repeat the Duke Nukem mistake?
The mistake with duke nukem was that it had to survive multiple engine changes. Besides, do you really think HL3 is going to be bad?
Man I hope it's HL3 on a new engine or something, just because when HL2 came out it was so fun seeing all the user made maps and mods and stuff come out, now it's died down :(
I'm not hyped up about the next installment, but any news on it even being in development could revive said hype. Come on, Valve, throw a few thousand dogs a bone here!
This is just stupid, HL3 is going to be stupidly overhyped. One bad detail and dickheads are gonna be crying "waah we waited X years!!!!"
It's gonna be good and everybody knows that, no matter which engine valve will use, they will make it good like all half life titles.

Never trust the gaming community to do anything but to thrust itself into perpetual, self-propelled hype and then moan when a game doesn't live up to said hype. Valve has never done anything to create hype around EP3, yet people are already saying it won't live up to it.
Not that I expect EP3 to disappoint, but still.
I really enjoyed HL2, the two episodes were pretty good. I'm hoping that HL3 is taking a long time because of:
A) The many games they are working on.
B) They are making a full engine overhaul like HL1->HL2
I can't imagine them killing a series, but as an end to such a huge set of games I can't imagine they want to release it on the same engine. I imagine them using it to launch the next source engine or something (considering the timeline).

Most games that took a long time also promised a lot. I don't think it had much to do with time.
If it's anything like Portal 2 was I'll be more than satisfied.

If they have nothing to show for they have all the reason to almost panic.
Let Valve whatever they want already, it's not like the were ACTUALLY FORCED to release .
Let it be a surprise ffs

If anyone could make Gamebryo work it'd be Valve.
