• ~850w PSU recommendations

Hey guys, Recently been having a lot of black screens and driver failures and total shutdowns playing some more 'intense' games. Latest one required me to reset my power supply so I'm fairly confident they're linked to that, and am looking for a supply that will last three to five years. I figure 850w will provide a good overhead for future upgrades, especially as it ages and loses some of its macho. System: FX 8350 @ 4.4GHz Sapphire Tri-x OC 290x @ 1200MHz/1500MHz core/memory 8 GB RAM Gigabyte 970 UD3 board 2 regular hard drives, might be looking for more soon Couple of LED fans and the like All currently running on a Raidmax 630w PSU - not the greatest, I know, but it was what I could afford at the time. Not looking to spend all too much, but if it's good I can spring for it. [editline]11th October 2014[/editline] I'm feeling this isn't a bad investment: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438018&ignorebbr=1 [editline]11th October 2014[/editline] Ooh, forgot to ask: Is there a huge difference in overload protection in single rail vs multi-rail set ups? I've read a few articles and opinion pieces on it, but it seems a lot like the Intel vs AMD argument with both sides lobbying pretty effectively.
You really don't need anywhere near 850 watts for your setup, but if you want a higher wattage this is an excellent choice.
I think Platinum certified ones would be the most recommended ones (Correct me if I'm wrong, PSU's aren't that high up in my list of things to know about) I currently have a 650W Corsair Gold Certified one that has never given me issues in the 3+ years I've had it so far, so i recommend Corsair. Can someone explain it to me?

Oh, one has a gui app that lets you control the output directly compared to the other. And different certifications = efficiency. Right, if I'm too tired to miss that, I'm too tired to stay awake. But I hope those possibly helped your decision, ramirez!
Seasonic / Corsair makes some solid shit. You really only need a 700-750W or so to play it safe though - I run 4 hard drives, 5 high speed fans, an r9 290 and an overclocked i5 2500k on 620.
The AX and AXi series are great as well. Rating really does not mean shit, don't worry about it. It does decide efficiency to some degree, but it doesn't really have anything to do with quality and a little bit of efficiency means you might see a couple bucks a year less on your electricity bill for the $50+ extra you spent on the supply.

Price aside, would you consider the XFX superior to this EVGA? I'm really looking for an install-and-forget sort of run here, and the EVGA comes with a ten year warranty which is pretty nice.
The XFX is a Seasonic unit, the EVGA is a Flowerpower unit. They are the top two manufacturers in the business, and XFX and EVGA have to two best warranties in field. IMO I'd just choose which is cheaper.
Sweet, thanks. Ordered the XFX unit just a moment ago.
