Hi guys, if you were assisting me on my rig building thread a few weeks ago, I humbly thank you very much. I got knocked back for finance, so had to save my wages for a couple of weeks, and I thought I'd update you on what I went for in the end (a couple of people were asking about a similarly priced build) as a guide for a very good price/performance PC. All parts bought from Scan.co.uk.

Admittedly the Power Supply is a tad excessive, you could certainly get a cheaper one to save money, but I already had a brand new one from a couple of years ago so I decided to use that and save myself some cash. Same with RAM, already had 2 unused 4GB sticks so I thought that there was no point in buying 2x 4GB sticks just now when I can upgrade in future if I need to.
Getting AMAZING framerates in Battlefield 3 (just shy of 100 FPS with EVERYTHING maxed out), Black Ops 2, Rift, and I've still to try Battlefield 4 and Grand Theft Auto 4, so this is a very competent build.
Happy rig building!
And 4 days after I buy this, AMD announce free copies of Battlefield 4 for the full R9 line of graphics cards...
Fuck my life.
Nice computer i would have gotten 8 gb of ram instead of 4 otherwise its sweet :)
Only reason I went with 4 is because I already had 4GB of RAM kicking about, otherwise I'd have bought 8 but didn't see the need to splash an extra 40-50 quid on it :) Same with the slightly excessive PSU.
Why didn't you buy one stick of RAM to get to 8 GB instead of having 3 sticks of RAM.
But I don't have 3 sticks :L

You aren't making any sense. Let me ask you this:
1) Did you buy that PSU?
2) What PSU did you have lying around?
3) Did you buy that RAM?
4) What RAM (how many modules and how many gigabyte per module) do you have lying around?
I didn't buy the PSU or the RAM on this list at this particular time, they are just included to show people how much the total price would be. I had already purchased said PSU and RAM (the ones in the list) at some point a couple of years ago (they're the ones I had lying around).
Sorry if I didn't make that clear in the OP.
already had 2 unused 4GB sticks
Was this supposed to be 2 unused 2GB sticks?
Yes sorry my apologies.

Yeah, don't fall for this gimmick.
Gigabyte has been selling shit HD7970 and R9 280/280X cards that are not only manufactured improperly, they're overclocked WAY too much and probably use substandard binned GPUs. If you end up using the voucher and the card is a brick, you're SOL whatever the voucher cost is (usually $50/$100.)
I bought the 7970 version of that card (it's basically the same card with a different GPU on it) and I went through two defective cards in a row before I bailed out and wanted a refund. In order to get a full refund, you have to prove the voucher wasn't used.
I don't have a voucher that's what I mean, I bought the card before the promotion started :(
Glad it's an Intel CPU
I have a personal issue with people buying NVidia GPUs and AMD CPUs because you won't be able to "SLI" it later.
You can do SLI with AMD CPU's...

There is no incompatibility with AMD CPUs and Nvidia GPUs nor Intel CPUs and AMD GPUs. The only relation between CPU and GPU type is that you can preform CFX with the integrated graphics of A series CPUs and old discrete (6xxx I believe) graphics card; however, this is extremely out of date and it will end up being slow because integrated graphics (even the best) are very slow.

So this is the golden answer I was looking for about 1 year ago. I'm rather disappointed.
I'm not saying that I have any issues with my Intel CPU. I had to make a change from three computers in my house with AMD processors so that I could "maintain" future SLI capabilities...
... or so I thought.
Will teach me to avoid some of the people who claim to be "experts" on other sites for a little while.
