What is a decent compact camera, that isn't bulky or unable to fit in a pocket, but at the same time better than a basic point a shoot camera? Don't really have a budget unless its ridiculously expensive for a compact camera.
Is something like the Canon G12 counted as a compact camera?

The Nikon P7100 is pretty much the best compact camera, you'll have to have a basic knowledge of how cameras work to use it correctly though.
Don't think more megapixels or greater zoom makes a camera better, you don't need a billion megapixels ir a 999999x zoom unless you want a shitty quality camera.
