In a parallel world not dissimilar to ours, certain individuals acquire the ability to summon fighting spirits; physical manifestations of their willpower, with various abilities and powers for them to use. These Spirits are invisible to the common man, but can be seen by paranormal creatures and other Spirit users. As such, these Spirit users often end up running into each other and influencing the course of history from behind the scenes. 1. Who are you? A) the son of a Roman aristocrat, close to the end of the Empire’s long existence. B) a hedge knight traveling around the tumultuous Holy Roman Empire. C) a pirate in the Caribbean during the golden age of piracy. D) an American soldier, on the beaches of Normandy in 1944. E) a college student in contemporary America. 2. You can summon a powerful entity called a Spirit. All Spirits have six stats, ranked from E (terrible) to A (fantastic). Which of these is your spirit’s strongest stat? A) Strength; how powerful your abilities are and how hard you hit stuff. B) Speed; how quickly you hit stuff and also general dexterity and agility of your spirit. C) Range; the distance at which you can use your spirit before its power drops off. D) Durability; how well your Spirit can take punishment before you get hurt. E) Precision; how accurate you are when hitting or shooting stuff with your spirit or abilities. F) Learning; how quickly your spirit learns new abilities and adapts to the environment. 3. What is your spirit’s ability? Psych! Ain’t actually gonna let you choose that from a list. Either I’ll use whatever fitting ability I come across by rolling random articles on the superpower wiki, or I’ll pick one of your suggestions if I feel it’s cool. And that’s it for the first post! I’ll update regularly (about once a day or every two days if I get enough votes.) Also, this is pretty much freeform improvising, but I’ll be drawing inspiration from Jojo’s Bizarre adventure (duh, if you didn’t guess already) and to a lesser degree from Shin Megami Tensei.
Could be interesting. B, then F.

Your name is Elias Goodwin, alias “Ego”. You’re a crewmember of Will “Rough Dog” Curnow’s ship, The Pride of the Coral. The hardships of a life at sea have unlocked a mysterious power inside you; a guardian Spirit that appears before you and protects you against harm. As far as you know, you are the only person with this supernatural gift, and only you can see your Spirit. When you tried to explain your experiences to other crewmembers, your stories were met with disbelief and laughter. And yet, you know better. This Spirit, whatever it is, is real, and it has had very real effects on the world around you. (( Its stats are as follows: Strength: C Speed: D Range: B Durability: E Precision: C Learning: A)) 1. What power does your Spirit have? A) It can harness the wind and create powerful breezes. B) It can control water. C) It can create and control light to some degree. D) It can create and control darkness to some degree. E) Something else. (Suggest in your post) The year is 1680, and the Caribbean has become a playground for buccaneers, pirates, privateers and all other sorts of highwaymen and cutthroats. The Spanish empire is beginning to fold under its own weight, and the English, French and Dutch are expanding their trade in this area. Speaking of… 2. Which of these nations has put a bounty on the heads of you and your fellow crewmembers? A) Them Spanish rats! B) Those pompous French frogs! C) The English dogs! D) The tulip-crazed Dutch shorties! You are currently sailing from Antigua to Martinique, for reasons the captain has refused to divulge. Although Curnow used to share all his thoughts with the crew, he has been acting suspiciously silent these last weeks. This is the first time he has ordered the crew to sail out without explaining why, and it has understandably upset some of the crew, including the first mate. 3. How do you feel about Will Curnow? A) I respect him as a leader. B) I like him as a friend. C) I dislike him for his personality. D) We despise each other. Just as your ship passes by Guadeloupe, you notice a small vessel in the distance – no larger than a brigantine – set its sails to full speed and turn portside in a large arc. If they stay on this course, they are bound to meet your ship halfway to Martinique. You can’t make out the flag it is carrying, but it feels like bad news to you. 4. What do you do? A) warn Curnow, who is currently in his bunk. B) look for the first mate, who should be on the deck somewhere. C) yell at the lookout in the crow’s nest to identify the ship. D) it’s probably nothing. Go on with your business, occasionally glancing back at the distant ship to see if they change their course. E) Something else. ((Also, OOC comments or meta stuff will be in between brackets from now on. In posts with multiple choices, it's easier if you put the number of the question in front of your answer, like so: "1A, 2C, 3B" and so on. Finally, we have to name our Spirit. Depending on the name we choose, I'll try to keep other Spirits' names in the same theme. This is freeform, so choose whatever.))
1E; ability to shroud oneself in St. Elmo's fire. 2D 3C 4A ((can't think of a spirit name right now))
1) B: You're in the middle of the sea. The ability to control water would be an incredible advantage over your opponents. 2) C 3) A 4) C I'll try to come up with a name once we decide what the Spirit's power is.
1) A 2) C 3) C 4) B
1) B 2) D 3) C 4) C
1) A 2) C 3) A 4) B
I'll need a tiebreaker on questions 1 and 4 here.
1) B (Are we going to use music to define the names of spirits?) 2) C 3) C 4) C
(Are we going to use music to define the names of spirits?)
Thanks! I'll make an update tonight. Also we can. Or we can use another theme. I'll figure something out as we go. Rev up those names, boys.
The ship coming your way is closing the distance. It’s clearly attempting to intercept you now! You run to the masts and shout at the top of your lungs: “Ship on the port side, behind us! Identify it!” From the crow’s nest, a familiar voice yells back: “Ego? Why do you… ” “Quickly!” By now, the rest of the crew is wondering why you’re seemingly worried about one of many ships in the distance. You feel their eyes in your back, until a few seconds later, the outlook’s voice is carried across the entire deck: “The English! Bloody English brig behind us!” You clench your fists at the mere thought of crossing swords with them. Everybody around you shoots into action as well, reaching for muskets, cutlasses and the cannons. And in the back of your mind, Levee Breaks ((placeholder name)), your trusty spirit, aches for action. Still, you need a real weapon, too. 1. What is your weapon of choice? A) A nice, sharp cutlass. B) An elegant rapier. C) A musket and bayonet. D) I improvise, really. Despite the commotion around you, the captain is nowhere to be seen. The first mate, however, is scrambling to organize the defense of the ship. But when you turn around, you realize the English ship is only half a mile away from the Pride of the Coral, and it only seems to be picking up speed! 2. What do you do? A) Find the Captain. He should be on the deck by now! B) Run to the side of the ship, and prepare for a melee against anyone trying to enter the ship. C) Run below deck and assist with the cannons. D) Something else (explain) ((As for our Spirit: I named it Levee Breaks, like the Led Zeppelin song, but this can be changed if people vote for something else. Levee Breaks appears as a humanoid figure made of water, with large seashells outlining its pecs and back to give it an identifiable torso. It has polished stone for hands and head, which is little more than a vaguely shape-faced opal. Levee Breaks can punch things with the strength of a fit human (increased if physics apply, like if he were to dive bomb an enemy and punch them) and can coil its body like a long stream of water to propel it around. You can control Levee Breaks from around 15-20 meters before your control weakens, and the absolute maximum range is about 50 meters. Finally, Levee Breaks can manipulate a few dozens of liters of water at once, allowing you to strike enemies with pressurized streams from afar.))
