I can relate. Search is inconsistent and very annoying

Can't even get to "Programs and Features" nor can I get to the network menu anymore (this used to work before Creators Update). Dunno why it does this.

okay, I thought it was just me.
I feel like it's gotten worse lately tbh.
Like before when I'd type "Gyazo" in, Gyazo would be the top result with "Gyazo GIF" under it. Now for some reason "Gyazo GIF" is the top result even though I don't use that at all.

If I type "Paint" in my search bar Paint.NET comes up but then half a second later it gets replaced by regular Paint so if I was already on my way to clicking it then normal shitty Paint opens.
just let me use google as my default search bar menu already FUCK

Hilariously that's basically what happened in Windows 7 as well
Built-in windows search was always pretty subpar so that's not a big news.
CU also broke having an exe right in my userprofile folder,
something something index folders why though

Windows 8 did it just fine.
10 however just goes full retard.
If I want to search for Origin in the start menu, it simply doesn't show up, so I've had to add a permanent icon to the start menu for it.
Various other programs do this and there's no logical pattern behind it.
Yeah, it's weird why certain programs won't show up at all. I just installed Swifty for Arma 3 and that won't show uo in the search either.

Should come up, if you Just installed it, they have to index it.
It's in your appdata, which should be a very common place for 'user only' software to be installed. If it's never indexed, that's an issue

I'm unsure if this will help, run it from an elevated command prompt
schtasks /Run /TN Microsoft\Windows\Shell\IndexerAutomaticMaintenance
w8 did it great tbh
better than w7 even

I like to think 8.1 fucked it by separating results into 'files' and 'settings' and 'applications'
The idea of search is to spend as little time as possible, adding mandatory filters with defaults just adds unnecessary time to the operations

Pretty sure it's just broken. You can see which folders are being indexed in indexing options, Start Menu is one of them. I have my Steam shortcut in that folder, yet it still doesn't show up in search. Hell, I can even add the Steam folder to the indexed folders and it still can't find Steam.exe
Yeah, it's been a couple days, launched it a few times, etc... Did that thing too. Still nothing.
Oh Windows Search.
windows 7 search was perfect
windows 10 search is slower and useless
i think the sole reason why i have classic shell installed now is because the search function of that (i believe) is basically the same as the windows 7 one, and i don't touch w10's search at all
god fucking damnit

Classic Shell just uses Windows Search.
So if you're seraching in Classic Shell you're just using w10's search.
This reminds me of this one time where I searched for the exe for my Soundblaster Z driver.
I typed in Soundblaster, Soundblaster Z, Sound, etc.
But it never showed up.
But when I typed in "Soun", it appeared for a split nano second in the search bar, so I hit enter as fast as I could and boom, got it.
Thank you Windows 10.

oh shit, well it certainly seems better, maybe because the windows 10 app suggestions don't pop up

At least classic shell can find both the things redBadger can't with regular win10 search.
I'm not sure if I'm the exception or classic shell actually does change the search function.

Never noticed that problem in Win7 because unlike Win10 pinning to start menu didn't increase my start menu size by over half.
[editline]a[/editline]
And I'm not exaggerating to be a dick or anything, I just have all my tiles removed so pinning one app creates one tile and wastes over half the space of the start menu that has no live tiles.

All I want is to remove this dumbass fucking stupid #-Z bullshit I never asked for or wanted and replace it with pinned items, but no.
