Alright, So my computer is a compaq (Though I've upgraded it a bit) and it works fine, The great thing about it is that Compaq made a sweet recovery thing built in, basically, it's like formatting, what it does is sets your computer back to factory default, so it deletes everything, replaces windows with it's default settings and shit, it's fucking superb, saves anyone from buying a XP SP2 disk and shit.
So my computers a giant mess atm, due to me not deleting useless files and crap I've only got 8 gigs of space left, even though I haven't! I've tried since forever to fix this fucking bastardizing problem but nothing works, so I thought fuck it, format.
But that's the problem, when I go into the recovery console (Start up computer>Spam F10>Recovery Console>Recovery menu with nice music and shitty screen resolution) It asks me what I want to start in, with a choice of going into C:\WINDOWS, D:\I(something) and another D:\ option.. and this is how it's not supposed to work.
Basically, it's the menu you get when your going to properly format with a windows XP Disk, Not the awesome sweet recovery thing Compaq supplied.
Does anyone here with a Compaq and some IT knowledge know what I'm talking about? Am I supposed to get this menu or am I missing something? if so, How to fix it? I don't have a XP Home SP2 disk and I'm too poor at the moment to buy one, and my CD/DVD RW drive is fucked so making one is out of the question (Though I do have a legit serial) I really need to format my computer soon but I'm being stalled.
I started in C:\WINDOWS and after it you get a choice of commands to execute.. That's not what I'm looking for. :saddowns:
If anyone can enlighten me on this problem i'd be very greatful!
Here's some pics, this is the menu I'm getting, and it's the wrong menu, generally I should get a blue windows screen with options like a system restore and a destructive restore (That's the format one)

and this is my D: drive (The recovery built in drive)
you can't access it but there's a copy of windows inside it.

I am guessing the FAT32 partition is the recovery partition.
Need more info on what XP says on the partition.

Yep!
Most info I can give you is that it's half full with space, FAT32 and the partition "hard coded" into the version of XP Home I got pre-installed with my computer, But the menu I'm looking for seems to be missing.
I'm wondering why, and if I can fix it so I can format!

I've done everything on that link yet it doesn't work, well what it says I should be seeing, appears to be missing.
So no recovery programs in the start menu?
I would guess trying the miniNT would load the recovery partition. If not, use the other D drive.
I'm not sure what commands I would have to type, If I format that drive I could mess my computer and I need it for college coursework.
Plus that HP website has nothing on this subject, which is pissing me off.
I think it's because I haven't updated windows for like.. pushing on two years now, that could be a possible problem? :v:
Either way I need to format and reinstall windows quickly and efficiently.
