Seagate is great and I like them, but also tbh I'd rather see 10kRPM and/or 128MB cache become budget-norms
or just give me 500GB ssds for under $100 thanks

We're getting pretty close with MLC cached TLC
Heard seagate are unreliable, dunno if this would be worth the, im assuming, steep price.
Problem with one 16 gig drive is that, if it breaks, you lose all your shit.
At least with smaller sizes you, if you lose one, you won't lose it all.

I can vouch for seagate's unreliability; out of all the hard drives that I've had fail on me, one was hitachi, one was western digital, and three were seagate. A seagate also failed on one of my friends recently. I stick to western digital nowadays.

You should be backing up your data rather than passively hoping your hard drives will never fail.
All hard drives fail eventually.
Anecdotes don't tell the whole story. And pretty much the reputation Seagate got was from a single capacity, of a single model, of just their home desktop lineup. Otherwise everything else from them has been fine in terms of AFR.
Is this under $200? If so this is a goddamn miracle

I would imagine a 14-16TB 3.5" drive would be 550-600$ USD

Issue with most high-cap drives (larger than 6TB) is they use Helium, which escapes the drives and eventually leaves them dead.
I currently have 4 seagate drives in my machine and have never in my life had one fail. I'm not sure if my personal experiences beat the personal experiences of thousands of other people. I also had a rosewill PSU with an extremely high failure rate for over 9 years with no issues. I only replaced it because it was old, it was still going strong. I also use a no name LED monitor that does not have any dead pixels and has great color. I just have luck when it comes to electronics

Probably should just build a raid 5 rather than get a single 16 TB drive tbh
Could probably build two for the same cost of two drives as well
These are SMR drives though. Unless you're using them for archiving, expect frequent stalls when used for other applications involving random, non sequential writes

On the flip side I can vouch for them being quite reliable. With the exception of a single WD drive everything I've used since 2007 has been Seagate and out of all of them the only one that failed was the very first one I bought and even then it failed about two years ago after very heavy use.
Like Brt said, Seagate's reputation for shoddy drives came from a single model. Their drives are otherwise on par with the other big name brands.

Syncing 1.3 TiB of data to an archive drive over bit torrent, it's going to be fun defragging it when it eventually finishes sometime in 2018.

Did I just go back in time to 1997?
