So what exactly happens when you boot?
Ah shit, it deleated my posts, urm il start from the begining again, I have an old laptop, a toshiba 4090 cds running windows me (it was designed for 98) And it has some problems when i turn it on, ocasionaly it come up with a acreen saying something along the lines of "Windows did not boot up corectly on the previous ettempt" and then it gives you 4 options, start windows normaly, safe mode, start windows with minimal drivers (step by step configuartion) and BOOTLOG.TXT. If i pick start windows normaly my computor restarts and goes back to the same screen, if i pick safe mode, it trys to load it, and freezes on a black screen, if i pick BOOTLOG.TXT it flashes up with some text that moves down the screen very fsat, stops then frezes and start windows with minmal drivers freezes on black screen to. The last time it did it exactly like this was about 5 months ago. Not being very good at knowing what to do, or how to fix it, i put it back in its bag, and left it there for 5 months, and the only reason i started using it again was becasue it was the only other computor in the house and we had to plug it in because the house computor had i virus. It worked fine after its 5 months of hibernation but it has happened a few times scince, and anytime it does i shit myself because it has so much private stuff on there i dont want to loose.
I'm not being funny but maybe it's time for a new laptop? Other than that try a reinstall
Try reinstalling it with windows 98. ME is quite buggy and this could possibly a result from it.

I also cant use my usb to back up any of my data because for ssoe reason it doesnt have the drivers and the bit of plastic inside the port has snapped of.
Yea, Windows ME is NOTORIOUS for its horrible bugs and glitches. Crashes a lot, which probably is the cause of the problem. I would advise doing this: Getting an external HDD and loading it up with Windows 98 or w/e OS you want, and setting it as your primary HDD (I think you can do it with laptops, not totally sure), then boot up and take the information off of the HDD in your computer and put it on the external. The reason I say external is because I am almost positive you cannot daiseychain multiple laptop HD's. Anyway, this is what I think the best course of action is :D, good luck!

I had the exact same problem. Took it to best buy, said it was a bad hdd. They got me a new one under warranty. Perform a full reinstall before you take it anywhere.
