Interested to see, when given a choice, if you play a boy or a girl in a game first. Or does it just depend?
usually i pick male because in most games females are dressed like sluts and i dont want to have a constant erection while i play. if the female characters arent skanky then i'll probably still pick male.
It depends. Most games in which I have the choice are mmorpgs. I prefer tanky classes with lots of armor, and naturally I chose a male character then. If I want to go for a mage or a priest, I usually pick females though. I think it looks somewhat weird to have a guy in robes running around. In non-rpg games: Mostly guys.
female generally. I guess I have some kind of gender identity disorder or something
The last time I picked a female character on purpose was on a Nuzlocke pokemon run I think, I thought it was fitting the history better, as Nuzlocke challenges, for people that don't know, is a Pokemon run where any Pokemon that is put KO, is considered dead, and cannot be used anymore.
Mostly male but it depends on the game.
It depends. If the gender has no effect on the gameplay then I often prefer male characters because they're easier to create amusing stereotypes and themes around, but I'll still make female characters every now and then when I come up with something amusing. If however the gender does matter (either because of different dialogue options or because of different stats), then I'll usually either pick the one that's most powerful for the build I want to achieve (if it's a matter of stat differences), or I will make a character of each gender (if it's a matter of different dialogue options).
It's usually ends up being even at one point but I always start with females.
I do my first playthrough as male and take it seriously, always. If I'm compelled to do another playthrough I pick a female character to see if there are any dialogue changes Mount & Blade Warband is good about this, they give different starting stats based on gender
Both.
While I'd like to say the male to female ratio of the characters I make/play is 50:50 this is sadly not the case. I have a preference to making female characters and I'm not sure why, I guess the simplest way to put it is that I enjoy making the perfect dream girl or something. Sometimes it just depends on the purpose of the character, like I'm bound to make a male character intent on resembling myself in some way, or if the character is for RPing purposes on an MMO I will favor male characters as trying to act as a woman just seems taboo to me. Should the character end up being some sort of tough melee fighter I will likely make them female because I like warrior women for some reason, not out of sexual desire so much as I think it's a badass concept. Other times it's just aesthetics, sometimes one races gender looks better than the other and I'll play the best looking one, or one looks better in this kind of armor than the other, or the class suits this one better. Looking back on it now, I feel kind of ashamed, nobody would fully grasp my motives with why I prefer making a female character over a male, others would assume I'm some kind of perv or something, but really I just prefer how one looks compared to the other. I just really value making my character look as cool as possible, and if a game gives me that choice to do so, I'm going to do it, even if it risks some embarrassment.
Depends on how I see the character honestly. If I think the character would be better suited as a guy, I'll go with a guy, if I think they would be better as a girl, I'll go with a girl. In big games that I want to play through multiple times, I'll end up making one of each regardless.
Depends on the game. If the game gives me a choice to control one out of a few characters that have a storyline, I'll pick the female if she seems more cool than the other characters.
I have the same thing with movies here. Whenever it's a female wearing these skimpy clothes and shit and doing backflips and jumping and kicking and fighting I just think it looks bad and not good at all. I want cool in my games :v:
To steal a reason from some guy on the internet whose name I can't remember, "Because if I'm gonna spend 300 hours running around in a game I'm gonna do it whilst staring at some chicks ass." EDIT: Wait, was that from Penny Arcade? BRB, going to read 10 years worth of PA.
Honestly I have no preference. I'll change what kind of character I play as if I get bored playing the last kind that I was. In many games yeah I play a male character, but I wanted something different in Skyrim and so I created a female Imperial and got her up to level 50.
always male no matter what the female characters look like
Male typically because I roleplay as me (for immersion) or some sort of badass most of the time
Female, usually. I wish I was a girl.
women, I normally make my characters women and name them after my girlfriend :v: why is this funny i have a girlfriend I swear
Male, but if i ever get the choice, i'd pick something genderless like an undead skeleton!
Depends on the level of customization, but usually female.
I pick male unless they have an awful design, or the female design is absolutely great.
male because i'm male and it works out
Male, especially if there's a manly moustache option. Also because having a character with a manly voice is very manly.
male, but like some people in the thread if it makes a difference in the game, i would pick female if it had smaller hitboxs, male/female depending on which gave the most stats for what i want in a rpg.
Male so I can actually name the character after me where applicable. I played as a female in one file of one of my Pokemon games years ago and it didn't feel right.
Mostly I choose male. I might have one or two characters that are female so it's not a complete sausage fest.
Male, I despise neckbeards who play female characters named "kawaiikitty69" wearing the skimpiest clothing in the game
In saints row 3 my character is a girl but I hated all the female voices so she speaks like a large englishman typically I play as male tho
