• BenQ XL2430T self-changing brightness issue

This is a strange one. I have only noticed it in two games: GTA V and Black Mesa (the mod). In GTA V, whenever I die or fail a mission, the monitor decides to turn the brightness all the way down. The same thing happens with Black Mesa whenever I quickload a save and occasionally when I die. I do not have the slightest clue as to what could be causing this, and Google does not turn up any similar issues. I thought that disabling DDC/CI would do it but apparently not. I have three presets set up. They are just the ones that come with the monitor, just tuned to my liking. Gamer1 is a highly saturated, high brightness kind of preset. Gamer2 is a more casual, accurate color kind of preset. Gamer3 has Blur Reduction enabled and is very low on the brightness (the monitor may be switching to this setting, though I don't know for sure). I know for a fact that this issue is from the monitor and not the games themselves, since switching to Gamer2/1 always fixes the brightness issues. It just gets really old having to switch the preset every time the game needs to reload. I just don't understand what algorithm is telling the monitor to change brightness under the specific circumstances of a game reloading to a checkpoint, because this does not happen in other games such as CS: GO, despite all the loading that I go through in that game. Doesn't happen in Synergy either.
Sounds like dynamic contrast, try turning that off.
Dynamic Contrast is set to 0 on all modes, it seems. I also forgot to mention that all the settings such as Dynamic Contrast and Auto-Game Mode are disabled.
Disable windows active brightness service.
Why in God's name was that even enabled on my desktop? Anyway, it's off now, and I'll let you know if that improved the situation. Thanks!

Unfortunately that did not do the trick. I am now entirely sure that the monitor is at fault here (or at least the drivers for the monitor).
does it have drivers? what model is your monitor?
I included the model in the thread's title, and I'm only half certain about the drivers. All I remember is popping in the CD that came with the monitor, watching it open on my browser for some reason, and having various options including manuals and drivers, though my mind might be playing tricks on me. I'll have to rummage around for the CD, since I tossed it somewhere thinking I wouldn't need it again.
How about the auto mode setting, what's that set as?
Auto Mode is set to off for each preset. I feel like the monitor is just ignoring the setting though.
Hey dude i have the same monitor and issue just like you.I managed to figure out what is the source of the issue and that happens due to Black Equalizer bug, if you set it to 0 than nothing will change. For the first time i noticed the bug in GTA V just like you but it also happens in Witcher 3 and i think there are more games to come. And you don't necesserily need to switch between mods as you want to get back the right brightness in GTA5 pressing ESC button and than going back into the game for me pretty much solving the issue in Witcher3 i need to press I button or J or whatever to change the screen and after that i continue with the game and that procedure solves the issue.Honestly i'm a bit dissapointed of that monitor because of the issue there is no reason why high-end gaming monitor user should be bothered with that kind of bugs. Also if i turn Black Equalizer completely off as suggested in many threads than the image becomes way too dark even if you increase your brightness the monitor still appears damn too dark what forces you to use the damn option of Black Equalizer.I thought maybe that bug appears somehow just in my monitor now i see i'm not alone here.Don't know what to do i tried a lot of tricks and the bug persists even thought about reselling it.Don't believe it will resolve our issue if we contact Benq they won't release new driver or whatever it can be for a couple of complainig users. As i see it the only solution as of now is to take advantage of the aforementioned procedure anytime the brightness fades off. :(
Glad I'm not alone in this issue, at least! I'm surprised at how many problems this monitors has. Besides the issue this thread is about, there are also issues such as severe ghosting (especially noticeable in HL2 and FL Studio, funnily enough), and there seems to be a very faint light that stays on when I turn off the monitor. It's hard to notice, but it is there.
It's pretty new monitor i'm sure there will be more complaining users to show up in the future maybe Benq will release some kind of driver to solve these issues. What bothers me now is all XL2430T has those bugs or they appears in individual monitors only if that's true we actually could RMA them maybe that would solve our head ache.
