So, I've been thinking, what do you thinks going to happen to computer graphics? Will they become amazingly good, or will they stay at about the same as they are now?
For extremely good looking games, people would have to put loads of effort into the game/graphics/whatever.
Maybe they would have a different engine, but still, that's alot of work.
So facepunch, how are graphics going to proceed?
We ALREADY can get awesome graphics, just not realtime. Most models now are made high poly and then remade low poly, so it won't add much more work.
What I want to see is better physics.
Maybe we will just go to holographic gameplay. But I'd rather they just make games with good storylines with decent graphics.
If not that then real time graphics, it would make games run with less ram usage maybe.
I rekon new methods of inputting model/texture data will happen if we get to the point of extreme detail.
Such as more accurate High detail 3d scanners, Physics scanners (Theoretical device that measures density, weight, throws the object about a bit and determines how it reacts and replicates it with a custom physics model)
Personally I think graphics is better when It's non-realstic and arty (TF2.... Mario...)
We will get better graphics but at one point, we wont be able to advance anymore and we will switch over to something new, like rsa1988 said.
Of course they're gonna get better, the next big step we're gonna have is virtual reality.

Not next step, but maybe later. XD
Think about how much it would cost to buy such thing.
Augmented reality games would be cool, MMRPGs that actually require people to get off their asses and go travelling, If a little eery in an FPS context.

Would be nice in the start, then it would be annoying.
3D Pong on your coffee table with a ball that collides with the objects on said table? - Strikes me more as cool than annoying.
I agree a MMRPG would be a bit annoying.
I do wonder, If the next WoW version was Augmented reality only, and required walking large distances.. Would the obesity problem subside a bit? :D

I could've swore I just read this exact post on 4chan /g/
I've always thought that technology won't stop until we can perfectly simulate our world and galaxy inside our own computers.
It's basically just art mimicking life.

"JIM SIT DOWN AND STOP PLAYING WITH YOUR FOOD"
"Not now Martha! I've almost beat 'em!"
Two words: Ray Tracing.
When a post apocalyptic setting actually looks real.
It would be pure awesome if there would be virtual reality gmod.
It would be exactly like real life but you would be able to do/make anything. Although maybe addiction would be a real problem.
Real time ray tracing, global illumination, and caustics.
Have a setting to feel exactly what your character feels.
Sex games here I come!
MOAR BROWN AND BLOOM LULZ
Nah, I'm guessing you'll see mainly higher resolution textures and more detailed models, etc, at least for the near future.
Water physics are probably what'll be worked on soon.

Already in development. Though it's basically a fleshlight hooked up to a porn movie.
Gfx is no problem, it's the Hardware
And well i think physics and water will be the next challenge..

It was. I posted that too, I wanted to see both opinions.
Personally I prefer cinematic graphics, like 300 and etc. Real life graphics suck, it looks boring and bland :|
Different things will be introduced into games like the sun rays in crysis and farcry 2, until they are commonplace, at least for the near future in games.
3D
How about start developing games that don't repeat the cliché cycle.
LOL SOME EXPLOSIVES HERE SOME GUNS DER AND SOME MOAR DER.
I rather see better physics and interactivity before better graphics.
I mean, what's the point of a realistic looking city if you can't blow the shit out of it?
Graphics still has a long way to go.

And if Larrabee isn't a complete failure it's closer than you think.
