• Building a gaming PC, $1200 Budget

I've never built a desktop computer before, so I need help knowing which parts to buy and would also appreciate some tutorials/tips for my first time building. -Budget/Where you live I'm from the US and my budget is $1200 max. -Games that you'll play/Applications you'll use The type of games that I play range from old-gen to current-gen. -Native resolution of your monitor I currently have a laptop so I do not currently have a monitor and I would like a decent one to be added to the list. -Things you can reuse (OS, hard drive, optical drive) The only things that I can reuse are my keyboard, mouse, and speakers. Everything else I already have is external since I have a laptop and I'd rather not use an external soundcard/hdd/optical with a desktop. -Extras that you want (monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, etc) I prefer a 2TB hard drive instead of 1TB if that will fit my budget. I would also like Windows 8.1. Maybe some thermal paste also if you guys would recommend it. I'm not very knowledgeable for what else I need so I would appreciate some help with that. :)
If you can stretch at all or live with a 1tb drive, I suggest including a 120gb SSD as well. Should max out any game in 1080p @ 60fps PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($239.99 @ Newegg) CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($28.66 @ Amazon) Thermal Compound: Arctic Cooling MX4 4g Thermal Paste ($6.98 @ OutletPC) Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-SLI ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($123.99 @ Newegg) Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($72.00 @ Newegg) Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($74.99 @ Newegg) Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R9 280X 3GB Dual-X Video Card ($249.99 @ Newegg) Case: Fractal Design Define R4 Blackout ATX Mid Tower Case ($79.99 @ Newegg) Power Supply: SeaSonic 620W 80+ Bronze Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($74.99 @ Amazon) Optical Drive: Lite-On iHAS124-14 DVD/CD Writer ($12.99 @ Newegg) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 - 64-bit (OEM) (64-bit) ($90.26 @ OutletPC) Monitor: LG 23MP55HQ-P 60Hz 23.0" Monitor ($126.00 @ Newegg) Total: $1165.83 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2014-09-16 00:16 EDT-0400

[img]http://www.facepunch.com/fp/ratings/heart.png[/img] I tend to use a lot of space on my computer so I don't think that I could stick with 1TB but I plan to get an SSD in the future but I think I can live without one for now.
I forgot to ask, does the motherboard allow for wireless LAN connection or would I need to buy a separate adapter for that?
You would need a separate adapter. I recommend the ASUS pcie n15 I think it is
