This somehow reminded me of the CryEngine 1 Demo and Far cry originally going to be on a island of dinosaurs
Liking the product placement.
I just noticed something very important. UE4 tech demos do not try to be ultra-realism, everything is stylized in some way, and thus, looks really freaking awesome. In this tech demo, it is like they tried to be as realistic as possible, and failed miserably at it. Only thing of worth was the pretty cooper.
Most of that looked surprisingly terrible.
This looked surprisingly underwhelming.
They say 'demo' and 'realtime' yet I can't download it and try it for myself
Impressive, though I wonder how long it took to render? Tech demos are nice, but sometimes that doesn't exactly correlate to gameplay due to disk size (Console) or just not everyone has a titan graphics card.

They were rendering incredible amounts of vegetation in real time. And huge areas as well. It's still impressive, and to some extent perhaps they are looking to move the crysis series to more exotic locations. I can only hope. Crysis 4 in africa would be crazy. Edit: I just realized this is simply the engine, not from Crytek. Just a reel from another company using it. Still though. Impressive use of the engine that normally has been moving towards indoor areas.

How much is that demo good tho unless you know what it takes to render it? And what it would take to render it in a "living" environment reacting to player behavior, draw distances, AI, etc etc. I mean Warcraft III's cinematics also looked pretty neat, but no chance in hell you were going to actually play in them. We've caught up with photorealism a lot since then, but not enough to make hardware irrelevant.
Enodo should really get better texture artists.

I mean come on. I want to see these rendered at 1080p raw. All the videos we see are either 720p on sites or not-so-overwhelming 1080p after they encoded it. Nothing impressed me more than watching a real-time scene and beig able to pause it, and maybe even move the camera around a little. Unigine heaven benchmark nailed this. I want more demos like to be interactive like that, or at least downloadable in the first place.
same shit we've had since 2007
I honestly thought it looked really good. It's beyond me the power it takes to render like that.
inside scenes and cars looked pretty spectacular. outside was pretty underwhelming
