• Ran PC Matic free scan to see if scam, computer slow and getting BSOD now
    10 replies, posted
I saw the ad on TV for PC Matic, thought it was bullshit, so i did the free scan to see for myself. Well, when i started my laptop this morning after doing the scan and uninstalling, instant BSOD, and after a reboot, it took me 30 minutes of waiting to get to the thread creator. This laptop is NOT slow. It's extremely fast, no issues with it at all, until i ran PC Matic. I'm asking for help about fixing this shit. I'm gonna run Malwarebyte's antimalware as soon as it loads. EDIT: It took nearly 15 minutes for the request for this thread to submit. EDIT2: It seems that my issues are nearly gone, considering i went into task manager and ended an unknown process that wasn't there until after the BSOD this morning. Also, task manager reports that barely any processing power is being used by any programs i open, maybe the shitty scam put an artificial limit to my processor?
Well at least you learned not to run *magical* pc speedup programs. 90% is bullshit, and the other 10% will only be advertised at forums or blogs because they are not made to make a profit. (safe for adverts on the download site)
Those things usually put some sort of spy/bloat ware on your PC. Being on TV makes me think they are not going to do any real harm to your computer such as causing a BSOD, but then again, they may have "fixed" something in your registry or system files either trying to make it look like they helped or make something go wrong o they can ride in on a while horse and fix it themselves for the low low cost of 19.95... per month... for ever.

You would think, but they must fix something small that doesn't matter, therefore it's legal, but they could also mess things up (maybe not on purpose)
update on my situation, i attempted to install a linux distro over a USB drive, didn't work at all. Even took out hdd to force it to boot from the drive, froze at "Syslinux" screen. If i leave HDD in, it skips booting from the USB drive and tries to go into windows. I tried booting windows again, another BSOD. used recovery thing for windows from within bios, now nothing works at all. I select USB from boot manager, and i get a totally black screen, minus a few rainbow spots at the top of the screen. Also i found out why my laptop was so cheap(expensive, $400), it was dropped. I can tell by how the plastic casing is all fucky and loose, and the scuff on the bottom i never noticed. Mind you, this was bought from a store i used to be planning to work at, and the owner is a long time friend of my dad.
Linux failing to boot usually indicates a hardware problem. The most common is bad RAM, but less common failures can also cause problems.
Did you actually make a bootable drive or just put an iso on a stick?
Do they really have commercials on TV in the USA about BS software like this?
