• Completely New to PC Building

Ok, so I was just about to buy a pre-made computer off of Newegg but of course Facepunchers, once again saved my life and led me here... I know absolutely nothing about PC Building, and I don't even know what I all need but I have heard that it is cheaper to build right? So my limit is $800 and I need it heavily for gaming and I don't know what monitor or anything yet I am getting as this is MY first computer. I use my cautiously because I pretty much own the computer I live with now but it's a piece of shit. So basically what I am asking is for you guys to maybe build a small one for me to see what it's like and give me a list of everything I need, answer the questions above, and maybe lead me to a guide on building it with advice/tips. Any help is greatly appreciated!
I'd like to show you an example of the price difference between building and the prebuilt, what prebuild were you looking at?
I was really interested in this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227340
you can probably save $100, at the least
Would this be a good processor? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103808
Would this be a good processor? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103808
Yes, it's great. At $800 though you could be getting a better one (Sandy Bridge i5 2500k)
Wait, an $800 processor?!?!?!?
saved $170 plus I got much higher quality components, like a Spinpoint F3. If you went and got the cheapest stuff available I'm sure you could get much lower. Now I'll work on the $800 build.
Wait, an $800 processor?!?!?!?
Nonono he means $800 limit. i5 2500k is only a few hundred. (hey i win)
Wait, an $800 processor?!?!?!?
No, an $800 computer with a SB processor
Wait, an $800 processor?!?!?!?
lol no at a budget of $800 for the PC.
Oh, I was gonna pass out/jizz but I yeah I did say the limit is $800. And where do you learn all this stuff? Makes me feel really dumb but at school I am the smartest with computers... Oh, and not to be picky but I would like a case with a complex look to it and LED's kinda like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129093 but of course a lot cheaper... Something maybe like this? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119196
That computer probably runs at -10C because of all those cool blue LEDs. [editline]24th May 2011[/editline] And the second one must be fast as hell.
-10C? What do you mean it must be fast as hell?
-10C? What do you mean it must be fast as hell?
He's making fun of you by saying the LEDs make it run cooler (the blue ones) or faster (red ones). It's obviously not true.
-10C? What do you mean it must be fast as hell?
It's a joke.
Oh, well that's not nice :3 Even though you did get me and I thought you were talking technical... Does it matter how many LED's I have in there and would one of those cases work? And I also need a monitor, mouse, and keyboard, I have a headset and I never really use speakers so I don't need those for awhile... I am eventually going to have 2 monitors so maybe a $150 limit on the monitor and like 22"? Does that sound good?
Oh, well that's not nice :3 Even though you did get me and I thought you were talking technical... Does it matter how many LED's I have in there and would one of those cases work?
LEDs don't really matter. They just look cool. Those cases would work perfectly fine.

It's just that you're putting more money into the case so you have less money for other stuff. It's fine, though.
If your computer is in your bedroom the case will just end up annoying you anyways.
I am going to have a nice setup downstairs so it won't be and I can always turn it off :) I guess the original case was fine, yeah keep that but I really like the setup so far but can someone addon a mouse, keyboard, and like around a 20" monitor (keep monitor somewhat cheap) and if we keep the current setup and add that stuff will it reach 800? And I guess I could always start out with a cheap keyboard and mouse if needed...

I think it would be better to find a decent monitor, keyboard, and mouse and then upgrade from the original setup as high as I can go... What about this? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009261 Weird, when I build that same computer with the same exact parts I get $650... Ok, well I finished everything and this is what I came up with: http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/2910/setupwq.jpg
I'd get an 870A-G54 mobo if I were you, it never hurts to have a decent one. (The one you got is total crap but it will work.)
Get an AM3+ motherboard imo so that you can upgrade the CPU later on to the new socket
An AM3+ motherboard would be nice, and I would cut down the RAM to 4GB. This way you'll probably be able to get a GTX 460, which will be a pretty great step-up from a 5770.
Yeah I was just remaking the prebuild to show the markup.
I'm aware of that.
Ok, can someone build this for me because I have no idea what any of that means... Besides the RAM but also keep the whole computer including monitor, keyboard, and mouse. under 800. Also, check this out: My friend said it's a lot more complicated than just picking parts you want he said something about "the right power supply for the cup gpu and the right cooling for the different parts depending on what they are and the the power supply has to accommodate that too" and "using a 32 nano bit motherboard instead because it works better and won't burn out a crossfire gpu" -quoted from him. He is also saying I will most likely need a professional.

The "32 nanobit" motherboard thing is pure bullcrap (There is no such thing) and as long as you have a motherboard that supports CF it will work fine. You don't need a professional at all, either.
