Hi, I've had this problem for about a month now, and It's really getting annoying. I have been unable to connect to steam for a long time now, and I'll go through what I've already tried, my specs, and history of it. I Have tried the following: Restarting internet altogether Disabling my antivirus Ran as administrator Added -tcp to the launch options Deleted everything steam folder but steamapps and steam.exe and started steam Deleted ClientRegistry.blob and started steam My specifications for my computer are: 4GB RAM Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8200 @2.33GHz 32-bit vista ATI Radeon HD 4600 series (4670) 512 mb History It started out on the day HL2 and HL2EP1 were updated to the orange box and they got mac support. I was excited, so i waited for it to update, then i started it up and it had to verify the game files. Fine, I can wait. Then, it cancels and says the servers are too busy. OK, thats OK too. Next day: get on, steam starts, try to play, same thing. Next day: logging in, says servers are too busy, can't even start steam. Now I'm getting angry. Next day: Try again, doesn't work, so I try doing a bunch of networking stuff, still doesn't work. Today: Fed up that nobody helped me in my previous thread, and my steam support question got a non helpful response, made this thread. Extra notes: If I were to go onto my brother's computer account, It would login, but i can't play. I'm going to check again if this happens and update the OP with what happens. -Update: Doesn't work on my brothers account anymore. Please do not say to do something that i have already did, read it all and throughly so you can help me in the best way.
Maybe you could try backupping your steamapps folder by moving it to your desktop or something. Then relaunch steam. If it did work, you could try putting the folders back, 1 by 1. You could also try disabling your firewall if you have any. And last you can try forwarding the correct ports for steam. also unrelated but you should go from 32 to 64bit so that you can use your full 4gb ram. Now you can only use 3,5gb ram.

I have not tried disabling my firewall or forwarding the ports, but the thing is I haven't had any problems with steam before this, and I've been using steam for 2 years, so why would this start now. I'll also try uninstalling some programs.
Delete everything in your steam folder EXCEPT steamapps and steam.exe and launch the exe. You will need to re-login.
Try deleting the steam background process, if it's running.
Remove the .blob file in your steam folder.
I think whole Steam is down, I can open Steam, but it won't load store, not in Steam or the website [editline]02:30PM[/editline] It works again :buddy:
Did you guys read anything I said? If that's onpurpose then you guys are asses. I haven't been able to connect for a month.
Go to downloads and change the server location?
If you can't connect to steam, you CANT LOG IN! Seriously, you guys aren't being helpful at all and I doubt you even read the whole thing.
I read you didn't try to re-install it? :v:
I read you didn't try to re-install it? :v:
I don't think that would help if i deleted everything but steamapps and steam.exe, seems exactly the same as doing what i just said above.
Hmmn, Try to post this on the steam forums? Maybe they will know what to do.
Re install steam maybe? I THINK YES! /caps
Re install steam maybe? I THINK YES! /caps
Why would i do that, when deleting everything but steamapps and steam.exe does the same thing?
Why would i do that, when deleting everything but steamapps and steam.exe does the same thing?
I would expect that Steam has a few registry keys as well. I would suggest reinstalling Steam.
Indeed. Steam has keys under HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Valve UNIN-FUCKING-STALL STEAM. After moving steamapps out of the Steam folder, otherwise it'll delete them :v:
Yeah go for a reinstall after backing up. Also you're not really willing to try our suggestions, or atleast mine. Things do change so it might stop working after a long time. I agree that the guys suggesting things you've tried before, are asses though.
Ok I'll try them, I disabled my firewall and it still didn't work, but I'll try the backing up. Wish me luck!
Eh, there's no difference between removing some useless registry keys and redownloading the client installer and just deleting everything but steamapps and steam.exe.
Restart your router?
I reinstalled, currently putting my steamapps folder back. Yay, it feels good to have steam again. No more help is needed!
See what happens when you ask for help and follow it?
See what happens when you ask for help and follow it?
Well, I'm sorry i just didn't think about the registry keys and all that.
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
