Building a PC- Recommendations for Case, Motherboard and Hard Drive and other questions
8 replies, posted
As a Summer project, I've been planning to build my PC. However, I don't exactly have a budget right now and would like some help choosing the components.
Monitor- Currently have a 1600x900 monitor suitable.
Motherboard- Recommendations? It'd also have to be capable of using a GeForce 9800 card (see below) and be capable ones in the future.
Case- Nothing too elaborate, except for it being capable of mounting 3 hard drive bays.
GPU- I have a spare 9800, although any "affordable" choices that can have more performance than that card.
CPU-Would it be worth it upgrading to an i7 over an i5?
HDD- Already have spares.
RAM-6 or 8 gigs (Any brand in particular?)
Did I miss anything? I'll update the OP if I have a budget.
It's seriously impossible to make recommendations without a budget.
i7s are generally used when you're going to be doing more CPU intensive things, like video editing. If you're just going to use it to play games, I'd recommend spending the money on a more reliable PSU or something and getting an i5 instead
Still don't have a budget, although I've managed to pick out some components that are doable.
CPU-Core i5-2400
RAM 2x 4 gig Genesis
HDD- 1TB Seagare
Thats equal to 400$.
Now I need a motherboard compaitable with them along with a power supply. Would help if you could use this website. http://pcx.com.ph Preferably not over 100$. A case would also be nice.
$100 for power supply + motherboard? no.

There's a difference between Things being compatible and Things being suitable. What's your all around budget, and what do you want to do with this build? Only gaming, or? Are you planning on upgrading stuff later on?
I have about 200 dollars for the CPU. For the motherboard and the power supply, I suppose it would be slightly less. I would primarily use it for gaming although I am planning to be able to upgrade it later in the future.
Still in the process concerning the CPU. Found a AMD FX 6100 for slightly less than the core i5.
Well, the FX is not very good. Isn't even near the i5. You do realise that the 9800 GTX will limit you extremely much in gaming? I'd recommend wating till you've got ~200$, and then buy. Ivy Bridge will be out soon, and so will the new GTX 6** series Nvidia cards.
