Please help!
Call Microsoft, 99% sure you'll talk to a robot. [editline]19th January 2011[/editline] Said robot should be able to fix your problem.
thanks will try
Oh err, is there a sticker on your computer that has a serial number? It's usually on the computer if it's OEM.. You'll need to quote that number to the robot I think
ok anything else i need to know?
Your computer should have a COA sticker with the product key on it, if it originally came with Windows XP
Have you tried to enter the key appeared on the COA sticker (if exists)?
Have you tried to enter the key appeared on the COA sticker (if exists)?
As in, we're talking about the same thing. [editline]19th January 2011[/editline] So OP understands..
ok i did that...it said it did not show up in their Products
Well A) You've quoted it to them wrong B)... Maybe someone sold you a dodgy copy of Windows... I dunno, where'd you buy it from?
its hard to say i got it a long time ago but its soposto be 2005,though it is 2000 right now cause of the restore disk
Hmm... Well Unless Binary has any ideas, I'd say you're screwed and should probably go buy Windows 7
I agree with mokkan. But here's the things I am confused with. Have you actually tried to enter the product code into the activation dialogue, or did you only call Microsoft? There were no notably mentioned 2000 and 2005 versions of XP. All there is was XP Home and Pro in Retail (buy it at the store) or OEM (Came with your computer with a COA sticker on the case). There were four major releases of XP: Original release, XP with Service Pack 1, XP with Service Pack 2, and XP with Service Pack 3. There were also specialty versions of XP known as XP Tablet Edition and XP Media Center Edition but you probably don't use either so I won't discuss them.
I think it was like this, OP had Windows 2000 Made a restore disk / system back disc later upgraded to Windows Xp A virus fucked up his computer, He's lost his Xp install disc Then he used the back up disc to get back to windows 2k, allowing him to use the computer
