Hey guys, I'm learning my first full song on the acoustic guitar, and I was wondering if there were any beginner tips out there. I'm specifically having trouble with palm-muting (switching between that and normal) and switching between chords quickly.
All there is to it would basically be just practice, but don't overdo it.
Yep, practice makes perfect. How long have you been playing?
Practice x 100
Yep, practice makes perfect. How long have you been playing?
I've actually been playing for a few months, but its always been simple riffs, most of which only require only one string at a time. So yeah this is the first real song I'm attempting.
There is only one way you can get better, and that is to constantly practice and always strive to learn harder and harder songs. You're going to want to start playing original songs too. Another thing you should do is to play all types of music, don't just play your current favourite music, play new music, old music, jazz, metal, pop, punk, rock, blues, classic, flamenco, funk and so forth.
You'll eventually get it. I had trouble with moving power chords around when I started about 6 months ago. That, alternate picking/strumming and palm muting have all become second nature for me now because I just practised and practised them. Also sometimes you'll just wake up one day and be able to do something. That might just be me though :v:

No, but seriously, if you take on something difficult, but possible to do at your level, do it. After a fuckton of practice you'll eventually get there. I learned Seek And Destroy by Metallica after 3 months of learning. It was difficult, and it took a long time, but I got there in the end thanks to a lot of patience, and motivation. Try all kinds of types of music, even if you don't really like 'em.

Chords chords chords, LEARN CHORDS!

What song are you learning? Are you fingerpicking or picking with a pick? ;o
