I want to buy an iPod touch for my birthday from Amazon.com
But is there such a thing as free apps, like apps which you can just download from the internet. Or torrent or something?

You can download apps from the iTunes App Store. There are paid apps [b]and[/b] free apps in the app store. But if you're talking about getting paid apps for free, then I think you have to jailbreak your iPod to do that.
