FireWatch dev uses DMCA against PewDiePie after streamed racial slur

Really just seems like a PR move. If PDP cared enough he could fight this and win, and they're all bragging about it on Twitter despite not really inconveniencing anyone except people who haven't watched those videos that've been out for so long they're probably not making much anymore.
This is abuse of DMCAs, plain and simple.
-snip nvm-

It's apparently legal, still disagree with using it this way though since it's more of a PR move instead of enforcing their copyright.
Edit: Ryan Morrison aka Video Game Attorney seems to think it's legal, not me.
That's incredibly childish of the FireWatch dev. To abuse the broken YouTube DMCA system to take down a video in which a YouTuber says a bad word is just... very childish.
The dev also really seems to have it in for "lets players", or at least PewDiePie and kind of seems to be using the "bad word" as an excuse to cause him harm in any way he can.
Hope it bites them in the ass. I hate dramaqueens.
There was already a lawyer chiming in on it saying PDP would be in the right if this case ever went to court, so no it's not legal.
This is just another classical example of an indie dev committing PR suicide in the hopes of riding on the tailcoat of another social media outrage. This is what you don't do, just stick with making games and stay out of garbage like this
To elaborate: Campo Santo granted otherwise unconditional express permission for streamers to broadcast their game via a blanket license on their website.
This void their right to claim copyright on that use of their material just about completely. (I'm not a lawyer, just a software developer who regularly deals with blanket licensing.)

I saw a lawyer also claiming it was fully in their right to do it if they wanted to, which is why I posted.
Doesn't change the fact I think it's an abuse of the DMCA and really an overreaction considering the incident had nothing to do with Firewatch or Campo Santo.
just saying, I trust Leonard French way the fuck more than the faceless and nameless 'lawyer' that TB mentioned
just saying, I trust Leonard French way the fuck more than the faceless and nameless 'lawyer' that TB mentioned
I'd love to see him counter the DMCA and win, I doubt he'd bother wasting time on an old video though.

That's the guy who pretty much dicked H3H3 over until they fired him and hired new lawyers, right? Or at least, he's from the same firm?

He owns and runs the firm that did that, yeah.

DMCA counter-claims don't initiate the court process afaik.
It would be on the dev to sue him over the rejected DMCA.
This dev is an SJW fuckwit trying to abuse DMCA to punish pewdiepie using what little power they think they have, DMCAing (not 4 year old) unrelated videos of their game on his channel.
(not 4 year) retroactive DMCAs because you disagree with something the person says that much later after you already gave them permission is just such an absurd thing to do.

Not gonna defend Campo Santo, but Firewatch isn't even two years old yet.
Not that it makes a difference.
Also by showing that its malicious in nature, because it is, that makes any case Campo Santo could make in a court, if it got that far, even weaker.
I love this! Good for them, taking advantage of a system to get this racist content removed. Shame on PewDiePie it sickens me that anyone would defend his actions, children watch his streams for crying out loud.
I don't condone calling people nigger (duh) but regardless of what Pewdiepie said this isn't what DMCAs are for.

What Felix did is worse and yet people are acting like he's a saint and then bandwagonning over the DMCA... some people are too anti-business for their own good and to the detriment of social policy.

People aren't calling Felix a saint, most people have condemned what he said. The reason that people are clamouring on about the DMCA is because that is unequivocally not what DMCA is for.
So yes Felix was an idiot for making the slur, but the Firewatch dev is an even bigger one for abusing the DMCA system, which is technically perjury.

Two wrongs don't make a right

I love how people are reuploading this all over the web, well at least its still there in case you want to watch it.
Still, smells like censorship. I mean really where is the limit if you can remove videos because someone said a bad word, even in a unrelated video

Either you are trying to start something here or you have been living under a rock for the past year

By having an opinion that's different to you, I'm trying to start something? No, I just hate bandwagons and I hate racist slurs more than I hate "abuse" of a totally legal system.

literally rooting for censorship over basically nothing
This is like dealing with a thief by showing up to his house and breaking stuff in it
or dealing with your wife cheating on you by shitting all over her rug
Imagine if a mod started randomly deleting your posts because in a completely different thread you accidentally called someone a 'weiner'
What Felix did is worse and yet people are acting like he's a saint and then bandwagonning over the DMCA... some people are too anti-business for their own good and to the detriment of social policy.
Being racist isn't illegal FYI
[editline]12th September 2017[/editline]
if people can abuse it because someone accidentally said nigger a single time, they can abuse it for significantly less.
Imagine if a multi-billion dollar company hunted for the smallest excuse to take someones content down over a totally unrelated matter.
Doing shit like this is what validates true racists like BLM, and the far worse KKK and neo-nazi's. It just gives people who actually want to cause harm more reasons as to why 'boo hoo as a racist I'm oppressed'
But you're just talking shit lmao "taking advantage of a system to get this racist content removed" - the Firewatch videos they're taking down aren't racist in any way.
99% sure he's just baiting
99% sure he's just baiting
He is but personally I have an uncontrollable need to argue no matter how awkward or silly it is
Baiting? No... I find it hilarious when a dissenting opinion props up and suddenly it's baiting for not riding the groupthink... but if it makes you sleep better, then sure. Either way, I couldn't really care less, I'm just airing my opinions on a forum :)
