So yeah, computer was working fine this morning, just come back from college and now it won't start up. I can hear the computer like it's trying to work, then it has a little fit and beeps 4 times. There's 1 long-ish beep, then 3 quicker beeps after it. Not a clue what it is seeing as it was working fine this morning, can anyone shed any light on the subject? I've heard it's to do with RAM or the GPU, but I'm not sure :frown:
What motherboard? [editline]04:09PM[/editline] It could mean that it can't detect your video card, depending on your BIOS :v:

a ASUS M2N-E ... hmm check your manual, they'll tell you the POST beep codes
No video card or bad video RAM
Checked a website about beep codes, the website said it was timer issues. Some other sites said it was video/ram problem, so which is it?
Video/RAM problem
Video/RAM problem
How does one go about troubleshooting it then? How do I figure out which is the problem and how would I solve it?
Do you have an integrated graphics chip on your motherboard? If so, try taking out your GPU and switching to that. Or try reseating gpu.
It doesn't have integrated graphics on it.
I'm having the same problem. Mine beeps 6 times than all it does is run the fan. It started doing this when my BIOS was being updated. Told me to restart PC and so I did. Before shutting down I went BSOD on me. That is when the beeping started. Please help me too. Will buying a new motherboard work? I'll be getting money soon.

Now I can go home and see if I can fix it. :D I had to go to my friends to use the internet. Thanks again for the quick reply.
So yeah, still waiting to see if anyone can help to see what the problem is and how to fix it :( Like I said, mobo doesn't have an integrated graphics card, and I don't have a spare one lying around either.
Reseat gpu
I had this problem except it was an infnate number of beeps, combine guru knows all about it XD basicaly I had fried the BIOS chip and a guy ame and replaced the MOBO for free
Reseat gpu
How does one go a about doing that? Looked it up, only says how to reseat a CPU not a GPU
take out the video card then put it back in. remeber to ground your self! [editline]11:49AM[/editline] oh turn it off too
Fair enough, if that's all it is :P I'll go try it now. [editline]05:44PM[/editline] Yeah I don't know what the fuck that was supposed to do because it did shit all :frown: Next step?
Get a new computer, the vid card is probably dead.
Strip it down and pop it in the oven. Gas mark 6 for 5-7 minutes ought to do it. Use an oven that you don't prepare food in. Be sure to pre-heat. Don't use the microwave. http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1421792.
