• Computer overheating and shutting down

My computer overheats (mostly while gaming or watching a Twitch stream, but also very rarely while idle) and does a hard shutdown. My warranty for this computer has long since passed, and I've tried cleaning out my computer, but the results are the same. This only really started happening a long while after I bought it. Before, the case used to be cold (at least while idle), but now it's neither warm nor hot, but the case gets very hot while gaming, which is sort of expected, but I'm just trying to provide some detail. Thanks in advance!
Maybe it is a power supply issue
Can't be temps. Those aren't even close to TJMax or even to a point where it could shut down. Although bad airflow might be the case. Is it a pre-built if so what's the case like?
It's prebuilt, and the temperatures are just after walking around a bit, not after actual gameplay, because I fear the computer will shutoff and I won't be able to get a reading. Just throwing that out there. I'll try and get a more accurate reading of what it's like while actually gaming if you guys need me to. Here's what the case looks like. Run Prime95 under just default settings to check CPU temp so we can have that stressed separately of a GPU power draw and report back.
I mean, it definitely sounds strange that a task like twitch streaming would have it overheating, so that's why i suspect it may be the power supply or something.
That isn't a proper clean job. What's the power supply. Do you have access to a multi meter?
We last cleaned it ~4 few months ago using compressed air for the interior and a damp wipe for the case. That same day the computer shutdown, and we did a pretty thorough job. I can't find the PSU anywhere on purchase page where I got the PC. Is the only option to open the computer up? We also don't have a multimeter. Still having trouble with this :tinfoil:
It could be that the thermal compound for your CPU heatsink has dried out over the time you've had the PC. In that case, you should look into buying new thermal compound or an aftermarket cooler.

Did you also clean between the heatsink ribs?
That cleaning looks horrible. How old is this computer exactly?
Temps are fine. Your issue is probably power related so check into that.. Also make sure all connections are SECURE as I've had one of the 6-pin plugs come out of my graphic card and it worked fine up until trying to play a game.. then the computer crashed on me and my mobo fried....... graphic card survived........

I'd suspect the power supply is your problem. When you cleaned the machine, did you try cleaning the PSU at all?
Sorry for the late update. I've been super busy this week. Here's what it looks like when I spend a good bit in game. One thing I've also begun to notice is that it usually shuts down in the afternoon and shuts down much less often at night, which is when it gets cold outside. Looks like your CPU is overheating. It could be any of the following: -your CPU heatsink is loose. -you need new thermal paste. -Fan not spinning fast enough (do you have fan control software?) -Still dirty between heatsink fins.

If we end up unsuccessful or run into problems trying to fix those 4 things we'll just get someone off craigslist or go to a shop to service it. Thanks for all of your help guys. Really appreciate it.
IS you fan control software actually working? Speedfan can be quite a crappy program. Make sure its actually doing anything and not just keeping your CPU fan on low.
