Ok so I have Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6400 @ 2.13GHz 2.13GHz, 2.00 GB of RAM Physical Address Extension and I'm upgrading to Pentium 4 processor (3.0GHz, or better)and DirectX® 9 level Graphics Card I want to be able to run TF2 and Garrys Mod perfect/ Highest settings so I was wondering if I need a new mother board they were asking me but I'm not sure.
How much money do you have to do all this?
Well for me to get my Platinum and Direct Card my friend will get us it and install it for $180.00 but I dont care for the price for the Mother Board I just need to know if I should
You may want to think of other options than upgrading something that old, if you don't have speccy, go download it from http://www.piriform.com/speccy and post your computers specs. Also, wrong subforum, should go into PC Building for this one, you can get faster responses in the correct thread.

You have socket 775 so if you have about 500 dollars you could get a core2quad cpu, a 460, and 2 more GB of ram, power supply depending. [editline]09:42PM[/editline] http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115057 quad core 2.66 GHz EVGA 460 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130562 about 370 dollars for those two things, RAM is kind of cheap and depending on your power supply it is much better than a pentium 4 and your current graphics card.
Ok I'm going to Book Mark those but I'm not going to upgrade my Motherboard but I will get the Direct and Platinum but I will get those some other time.
why downgrade to a pentium 4? Upgrade to a core 2 quad that will fit in your socket 775. As for graphics get something around a 9800GT. Or an ATI 4770. That should get you up there, but you really won't find any upgrades for only $180.
Can you give a link to the direct and platinum, sorry to sound stupid but i have no idea what those are. What gunfighter said, don't downgrade your computer because yours is already a dual core 2.13, a pentium processor is not as good as the core 2 series. If anything you can just overclock.
Oh I didnt know I was downgrading I know nothing about computers [editline]02:13AM[/editline] Sorry for double post but I thought I was upgrading cause its 3.0GHz but mine is 2.13GHz and TF2 requirements were 3.0GHz
2.13x2=4.26ghz. Becuase you have 2 cores, it's more like the latter. Your fine.
It is not 4.6 GHz because of that. I'll try to resay a car analogy i heard a while ago. Single core is like having a car driving down a freeway. Dual Core is like having 2 cars going the same speed down the same freeway. More passenger space so you can carry more people at once. As in one core can do this while the other does this sort of.
What I'm trying to say is that his dual core would do the same as a single core at 4.6. Just a simple analogy. There are more complex factors as to why that can't be 4.6 and so on but I'm just trying to keep it simple.
Ok so should I just upgrade my Graphics Card
It depends on how far you upgrade your graphics card, if you get a 9800 GT you should be fine. If you go for something like a 460 you will want to upgrade your CPU as well because your current one will bottleneck its performance. (it wont work to its best ability)
Also with the 460 and possibly the 9800, you might want to upgrade your motherboard because I have a feeling it only has a pci-e x16 1.0
I was going to upgrade to DirectX 9 instead of my 8.1
Why go to 9 when you could go to 11?
Theres 11 I need to read more
I was about to say, the best thing you can do to not get raped by computer stores and repair guys is google your problems, read around the threads in hardware and software, and build your own pc, all you have to do is post what it is for, how much your budget is, and what you can salvage from your old computer and the people in the PC Building thread will help you out. I didn't know too much about computers when i first built mine and now i know a lot more.
Also with the 460 and possibly the 9800, you might want to upgrade your motherboard because I have a feeling it only has a pci-e x16 1.0
Both will run on PCI-e x16 1.0 just fine.
Both will run on PCI-e x16 1.0 just fine.
But why get a GTX 400 series just to have half the speed from sticking it in a 1.0 slot?

Ok please stop going computer nerd just answer the question you seen my spec im upgrading to Directx11 graphics card will it be able to run Gmod 10 perfectly fast and will it be able to run TF2 on full quality for both

We can pretend it's a picture of a giraffe! But very sadly, you're missing three pieces! We'll call those pieces RAM, CPU, and GPU! Now to get your puzzle looking nice you need all three pieces! Are you following me so far dearie? You need a good CPU, a good GPU, and more RAM, then you can get to look at that pretty puzzle of a giraffe! If you just put in a nice, new GPU your puzzle will be a widdle bit more complete, but not all the way... It still won't look pretty! So if you're getting a new GPU you also need a new CPU and more RAM! Is that understandable for your three-year-old mindset? Also if you just go fuck all and buy the cheapest graphics card you can find that supports DX11 you won't barely notice a difference at all you fuck-up, Windows XP only supports up to DirectX 9 and that's it, and if you just buy a fucking cheap ass card with 512mb of DDR2 VRAM just because it supports DX11 you will get shitty as hell performance. Just because it's DX11 doesn't mean the card is nice, look into it.
