• How's this first-timer gaming build looking? $1000 budget

I've been dreaming of building a computer for literally 5 years, and now I can finally do it. I don't plan on overclocking, unless you guys think it's truly worth it on my budget. I don't want to go over $1000 by much, and I want to squeeze the best performance out of that budget. I need to keep it semi-compact, so I don't want to get a case any bigger than the one in the list. [url]http://pcpartpicker.com/p/JskWJx[/url] As far as I can tell, everything will physically fit, not only in the case but I also made sure the cooler I chose will fit over my RAM. If someone could confirm this, it would be greatly appreciated. One thing I'm not sure of though; is it even worth getting an aftermarket cooler if I won't be overclocking? I might eventually get a solid state drive for the OS and a few programs, but I don't really care about startup time or load times as much as I care about performance. Already have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers. [editline]14th August 2014[/editline] I'm also really not sure whether or not I should get Windows 8.1 instead of 7. I hated Windows 8, but I've had little experience with 8.1. My laptop runs 7 premium, and I am quite happy with it. What do you suggest?
Firstly i agree you don't need the cooler, the stock one works great,it comes with paste as well. A SSD is an excellent addition to make, it really does have a very noticeable impact on load times and can benefit some disk heavy games as well, the Samsung 840 EVO is my personal recommendation, it's quite cheap as well. The 750W power supply is a little overkill, 600W will do the job with room to spare. You could go with a cheaper motherboard since you are not using memory with very high clocks, 1600MHz is fine IMO. Not sure about the RAM, seems okay but personally I'd go with Corsair, never had an issue.

But for the power supply, I want to have room to upgrade in the future without needing a new power supply, plus most PSUs are most efficient at about 40-50% load [editline]14th August 2014[/editline] Do you have any motherboard suggestions? I don't know much about them [editline]14th August 2014[/editline] Here we go, this seems to work great: [url]http://pcpartpicker.com/p/RshvD3[/url]
Looks good to me.
For the love of god, get windows 7. Im planning on switching from ubuntu to Windows 9 when it releases. It looks damn promising, like windows 7 with a metro skin start menu. Just my opinion though, if you like 8 get 8.
Why go for an older is that runs slower? Nothing wrong with 8.1 unless you need to run older games.
I have another question. Do I need or should I get a fan controller, since I'm getting 2 additional case fans? If not, how do I go about powering those fans?
Nevermind, got answered in the quick questions thread
