$20 for a mod...I thought they said this was going to be like $5 or something.
I think think this is actually an okay price, you get a lot of content with it. It's just weird since the skyrim shit happened so recently.
Is the difference between this and the free version the deathmatch?
I wouldn't consider it a "mod" anymore, it's almost entirely new assets and standalone. 20€ is too much though.

I totally agree, 20€ is TOO much for a game that rebuilt all the content and code by scratch over a timespan of over 3 years.
I'd rather pay 50€ for a much MUCH shorter game + Season Pass for 40€.
twenty clams for a reskin? but for that trailer alone. ill buy it. the gman was scary.
If it had Co-op I'd imagine people would be more forgiving over the price

Did my opinion on the matter hurt your feelings or something? Why do you feel the need to act like a sarcastic prick?
And yeah, I'd rather pay 20€ for a new game than a slightly improved version of a game I already played three years ago (the original mod).

Well it's kinda unfair. What if the mod never existed as a free mod and this was their release?
I might have overreacted a bit but I think 20€ is absolutely okay,
even for a mod we have already played because they will update Xen into it.
Come on, the guys deserve the money.
Also the Skyrim shit saying that mods should be free is stupid and I've stated my points before, Final Doom was a WAD pack for Doom that got commercial because iD saw the value and effort on that
That's different. Final Doom going commercial didn't mess with all the other Doom mods.

oh yeah because a dumb bad modelled sword equals an standalone game full of custom assets that's been on development for 10+ years and the only thing that it's not custom it's the fucking story
right???????????
Considering the original is still $10 for some reason, this is a decent price.
For fuck sake, all this complaining.
Just get the free version off their website. It's being kept up to date with this version.
OR pay a few quid to support them. This is a bargain when compared to some AAA releases given out broken and featureless these days.

I'm not arguing against the 20€ price tag but I don't see how the fact that there are shorter games that cost 50€ somehow justifies it.
Over ten years in development by a team of professional grade artists and programmers and people demand it should be cheap, it's a total conversion jesus christ. By your logic almost every sequel or Source game ever should be 5 dollars because it's a 'mod' of a previous one.
Also the Skyrim shit saying that mods should be free is stupid and I've stated my points before, Final Doom was a WAD pack for Doom that got commercial because iD saw the value and effort on that
I just said the timing was weird, I said the price was fine. Chill dude.
Everyone flipping a shit over something that Valve could destroy in an instant if they wanted to.
If you don't want to pay, go get the old free version.
I can understand some of the anger, we finally see something happen with Black Mesa, but it's the free version put in early access without the last few levels that was suppose to come with a later release.
They should have just finished the game, then released it. Doesn't help that almost everything that's being released at the moment is in early access.

WHY IS EVERYTHING SO FUCKING EXPENSIVE NOWADAYS
So they changed their minds after people telling them they'd be willing to shell out money for the game? Sure it shouldn't have released in early access, but I think they're allowed to earn money for a mod/game of this scale.
I'd be less cautious if they at least showed a screenshot of Xen and a rough eta.
$20 isn't a lot of money to shell out to some devs who have been busting their asses on making a beautiful game for years.
I'm not going to buy it just yet though, Xen still not being included is worrying and I'd rather play the full game.

They never gave a price ever.
You don't think they deserve money after spending as much time on this that other companies spend on $60 games?
[editline]5th May 2015[/editline]
As for changes, they replaced a lot props with brand new models, they replaced most of the guns with new models and animations. Rewrote the code for NPCs. Made a deathmatch mode.
I'd probably buy it for 20 if the singleplayer maps can be loaded up in deathmatch and played cooperatively without many issues, not really keen on purchasing it just to replay it unless Xen is in
I find it kinda weird that they're selling it now, but I guess if it was something that people requested and valve approved then it's not a big deal.
Now that I think about it, I guess it's really not much different than Counter Strike and Team Fortress getting a paid release since they were also mods to start with. This isn't something Valve is new to doing.
I'm not a fan of the precedent that's been set with the Skyrim mod fiasco, but the Black Mesa team worked really hard to make Black Mesa and I don't mind them getting money if it means they can finish Xen sooner. I'm probably not paying for it myself anytime soon though
There's nothing weird about this being for-sale imo.
The fans care for and have more respect for the Half Life franchise than Valve currently does, so why not? I was still in Middle School when they started development of Black Mesa. That's craaaaayzee.
Even though I hear the Deathmatch is fantastic, I'm going to wait until Xen is complete. I learned my lesson with Telltale on paying full price for not 100% of the Story-mode experience.

Boo hoo go get the free version and quit bitching thanks in advance
all you'll be missing is cards, steam-registered achievements, etc.
I already own half life. Why do I need to pay money to play a quater of it in source 2?

You don't. See the post right above yours.
Wait for a sale if the price is too high for you, shouldn't be long.

It isn't in Source 2

More like 3/4ths are there with what most consider the worst part of the game missing so they can later make it not so terrible.
Steam has really spoiled people if people think 20 dollars is expensive.
Steam has really spoiled people if people think 20 dollars is expensive.
Considering that the majority of the games that I've bought on Steam were on sale for super cheap, I agree with this.
Still rather it be $15 for early acess and $20 for full, but what they're asking for isn't that unreasonable.
