It takes place in a dystopian authoritarian future, where everyone is supposed to physically and mentally equal. Everyone wears weights around their neck to "share burden" or something. The story revolves around a couple who's son removed his weights and joined rebeles, and I can't remember much else.
Keep in mind, it's a short story, or atleast I think it is, I read it on a handout at my old public school years ago
