• New desktop (+keyboard/mouse/monitor) for school/gaming
    6 replies, posted
So, I'm looking to build a desktop for my gaming purposes as well as image processing/coding that I'll be doing related to school. I own no parts prior to building this. I'm not looking to cut corners as I will be using this rig a lot, but I don't really wish to go past $1800. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/kzcst6 P.S. I live in the US.
Here's one with a bit of budget left over. Mouse and Keyboard are really up to the individual. Also think about what speakers/headphones you may need. The monitor could be done cheaper, but I've heard it's one of the best sub-$200 IPS panels out there that's still good for gaming. I personally wouldn't get a laser mouse. I have the G400s, it's a very popular mouse for games like Counter Strike and it is very comfortable. Your keyboard is nice however. I recommend a g700 g600 is good for out of gaming stuff too [editline]26th July 2014[/editline] monitor just HAS to be 120hz / 1440p at that budget too
I know it's not going to be a popular opinion, but I really like my Death Adder. A lot more than my old Logitech g500. It's definitely not for everyone, but it fits the way I grip my mouse absolutely perfectly, and it's not flashy at all. Also surprisingly durable (although it may not feel like it). Had it in my laptop bag back and forth for a year with no signs of damage when that's what claimed my g500. For some of the image based stuff, an IPS panel may benefit him far more than 120hz would. Guess it depends on his priorities.
I'm not doing color-sensitive photo editing or anything like that. I'm working with processing images and videos for things like facial recognition and whatnot. [editline]26th July 2014[/editline] Although I think I prefer the IPS panel for its nice colors. I'm very much a music/cool lighting person and so I'll have some sweet Audioengine A5+ speakers beside my monitor and some colored LED backsplash lighting.
Up to you, but if it's not color sensitive, a monitor like this would be a great choice. It doesn't have bad colors by any means, but obviously is not an IPS panel. The r9 290 would be able to push out the power necessary for a nice, smooth picture at high frames.
