I saw the alienware m11x, it seemed pretty cool, and when I tried doing the build thing, it all seemed to be a good price, but is there a laptop better? All I really want to play is Source games, BFBC2, and probally BF3 when it comes.
Do not get alienware. If you ignore everything else in this thread, do not buy alienware, it is a massive ripoff. With that out of the way, why do you need a laptop and not a desktop, a desktop offers the same performance for less. Should you be dead set on a laptop, get something by Asus.

Bare in mind that whilst computers get more and more powerful, nobody has figured out a way of making batteries any better, so your battery life will be short in games.
Alienware is such a scam that you have to avoid Go instead for ASUS laptops [editline]19th July 2011[/editline] Also, gaming laptops are not a great idea, they have a short battery life and often heat up/are noisy (except the ASUS G series on this point). They are also too weak, in terms of performance, for their price. [editline]19th July 2011[/editline] Multimedia laptops can run game too, if you turn off some graphical settings in some recent games, and they are much more worth it
Seriously keep the battery life in mind. If you buy a gaming laptop, what that means is you have a laptop, a charger, a USB mouse and at home, you probably have a keyboard too. And you will use that charger, trust me.

Could you recomend one thats around my budget and can rrun TF2 and BFBC2 at medium settings [editline]19th July 2011[/editline] [QUOTE=nikomo;31206316]Seriously keep the battery life in mind. Also, I looked at the G74, the best buy price seems good, even thought a bit high, it seems like its good, it can even run DNF, which is pretty good for a laptop that can run a terrible game that requires a big rig. Is it worth the price?

ASUS N series are pretty good for that, but there are also some good models from other manufacters (Like Lenovo, Sager, MSI, Samsung). Though I tend to prefer ASUS for their silent and cool laptops, but that's a personal opinion. Just except to play several games on 720p (with medium-high settings), like BFBC2, but with a good framerate

Go for Asus I got a k52 jr and its about a year old no real problems and it can still play most games mid to low and source games (portal 2) almost all high.
I've an Asus N53S, i run BC2 in high without AA. Best Quality/price ratio. You can easily play TF2 in High with full AA. specs : i7 sandybridge 2Ghz 4Go RAM GT540m 2Go dx11 Win7 x64 for 800 euros. if you want a list of game you can run on this laptop, ask me. Don't buy a gaming laptop by Asus, get one by MSI if you must have one. Keep in mind though that laptops aren't meant for gaming. You're going to be putting close to 3x the money into a laptop that you would for a similarly performing desktop. Also, wtf. First time posting in years but I know I have more than 7 posts:tinfoil:

Asus makes great laptops. I've got 3 netbooks from them, their build quality is amazing. Anyway, "gaming laptops" are generally still more outdated than the desktop counterpart. Do NOT and I mean do NOT buy from Alienware. It's pure shit. I bought an Alienware years ago, and it did nothing but fall apart. It's made by Dell, so it's pure shit. They use non-standard connectors for nearly everything, so getting replacement parts cheap is nearly impossible. Personally, I find HP's amazing. I STILL use my HP NC6400 more than anything (with the sweet-ass fingerprint scanner that I barely ever use).
Save up another $100 and get this. [URL]http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230027&Tpk=asus g53sw-xn1[/URL] When I was looking at laptops, it seemed to me that Asus as a manufacturer has the best bang-for-your-buck. Don't get Alienware. For the same components, they are much more expensive. Also, all the ones I looked at were covered in lights and LEDs. I felt like a tool just looking at them.
