Samsung Monitor 'Not Optimum Mode' With PS2 to HDMI adaptor - please help

At my wits end with this!
Invested in one of these:

But my Samsung P2450h monitor isn't having any of it. When I hook it all up, I get a message box saying 'Not Optimum Mode. Recommended resolution 1920x1080'. I have set the PS2 on different video settings in an effort for it to run and still no dice. This thing has got plenty of positive reviews everywhere and seems like a good purchase, but it's just not working with my Samsung monitor. Seems like some kinda of hard programmed setting in the monitor in which it won't except anything less than 1080p through HDMI. If it doesn't detect it, it simply refuses to display it.
Absolutely infuriating issue, I just want to play some Crash Bandicoot :(
If anyone has any ideas please let me know!
Connect your PS2 to something else and switch it to a progressive resolution (480p)
