I like how there's no mention of prices.
Is this dude serious lol You can go more than "a couple of years." In fact, I haven't bought top-of-the-line brand-new hardware ever, meaning the bits and pieces my PC are made up of are all, in some places, at least around 3 years old. My processor came out in 2012 and that shit's allegedly gonna be able to run GTAV. We'll have to see about that, but I haven't had any trouble running any recent games that weren't Dead Rising 3, which was a shitty port. Unless the next DirectX and Windows 10 usher in a new era of cool shit, I doubt much'll change for at least another year.
External graphics cards are not a new idea, and it's a bit embarrassing for a journalism site to do a paid sponsorship for what is typically a pretty cancerous company in the gaming scene

It's sad, Alienware used to be the final word on pre-built PCs , but since they were bought out by dell they've become one of the lowest quality manufactures in gaming.
I cannot remember a time that was ever true, they've always been a company making super overpriced flashy boxes as far as I know
Nah they really did used to be very good and well priced originally. They didn't have any of this overly flashy shit and tended to use remodeled aftermarket cases where they just replaced the badge with theirs. Then Dell bought them out and forced them to use all Dell hardware, sponsors and other dumb shit. The prices then flew through the fucking roof.

No other site (save for an insane Mac Pro) could get hardware up to that price on a prebuilt system. 3x 8800 Ultras and a Core2Quad Extreme for like 20 grand.

Oh god that image isn't thumbed, it's just actually 640x480.
Oh god that image isn't thumbed, it's just actually 640x480.
Is it scary to think that just 8 years ago the average display resolution was 1024x768? That image would have been huge as a forum post un-thumbed back then, especially considering internet speeds :v:
How do they interface the amplifier to the laptop? Wouldn't it introduce a huge bottleneck for the graphics card unless they used something with a huge throughput? Do they do some sort of proprietary external pcie connection?

It's just an external PCIEx4 2.0 slot, which still allows for solid bandwidth.
