Man, I even do this in VR games like H3VR and Pavlov. I just love reloading. It's fun to perform and watch.
I have no idea why I always reload, even after using 1 round. Hell, I'll whack the reload key even when the mag/clip/ammo receptacle is full
half life 2 did this to me i will never stop pressing R whenever nothing is happening help
I may need that one bullet, and you can't convince me otherwise.
Tbh its the greatest thing ever to bind reload to fire when using a shotgun in a game that doesn't interrupt your shots while you're reloading Pace your shots and you have a perfect filling of shells. Every single shot reloads the gun, but doesn't interrupt it.
I sometimes shoot once and leave it at 29 instead of reloading that one bullet. I walk a thin line between life and death whenever I do that, and that makes me feel more alive than anything else in the world.

The constant reload bullshit wouldn't be a thing if more games did away with dumbass ammo pools. It's one relic of the 90's that should have died a long time ago.
i've learned that the greatest therapy for curing yourself of Chronic Reload Syndrome is to play as gaige the mechromancer in borderlands 2 for those unaware, she has a (practically essential) skill called "anarchy" that slightly increases damage and decreases accuracy, stacking for every kill you get and every time you empty your magazine in combat up to 150x (which can be further increased), making her extremely deadly in close quarters combat but pretty weak without that bonus. the catch is, if you reload early? all of your stacks are fucking gone. all the way back to nothing, even if you were all the way up at like 400x+, and you have to slowly build your way back up to a viable amount of damage again while basically lightly peppering enemies until you reach that point. needless to say, this broke my habit pretty quickly and i can now tolerate pretty much any amount of rounds left in my magazine, since every early reload is the worst reload. i ended up binding reload to P to make sure i don't accidentally hit it, but either way it's done a good job of preventing me from impulsively reaching for that R key
what new system do you recommend, then?
I think he recommends the systems where you either keep the old mags with whatever little is left in them, or you lose everything that was in the old mag. Meaning that you suddenly end up without any ammo at all if you reload when you actually have any ammo remaining.
I have no idea why I always reload, even after using 1 round. Hell, I'll whack the reload key even when the mag/clip/ammo receptacle is full
If you're safe and the game doesn't drop ammo when you reload there's no reason not to and at least one bullet's worth reason to.

Then I end up with no ammo left very rapidly.
that sounds like you are blaming the game for your own problems
I don't blame them, but I hate them all the same. Man they didn't even put up a warning or anything!

I think it's insulting that so many devs have closed-bolt weapons not retain the chambered round, or have the animation include working the action when reloading from a half-spent mag.
I have a question for those of you who reload a lot like this, did any of you play Doom 2016? After playing a lot of shooters over the years that had reloading, it was kind of nice to play without having to reload at all again. Could see it being a bit disorientating for people who reload guns constantly though
STOP CALLING THEM CLIPS, THEY'RE FUCKING MAGAZINES. That's my one main gripe with alot of shooters, calling Magazines, Clips, like just fucking kill me now please.
I love to reload during a battle! The feeling of slamming a long silver bullet into a well greased chamber.
I used to chronically press qq in cs back when the m4 and ak47 had charging handle equip animations on the left side.

I would sometimes purposely miss or overkill a corpse to just to see the stylish as hell empty reload i.e KF2's guns and BF4's Desert Eagle
There's a simple reason More Bullets = Win Firefights. Carry that philosophy over to games and congratulations, your R key has an indentation from your fingernail hitting it more than any other key
I do it all the time. Is it supposed to be bad practice or something?
I do it all the time. Is it supposed to be bad practice or something?
Not as bad practice as entering a firefight with 12 rounds left in a 30-round mag.
