My girlfriend just got a new laptop with Windows 8 and the built in webcam wont work.
Any program that uses the webcam says that there is no webcam found or to connect a webcam.
I've tried updating the drivers, enabling and disabling the webcam and Google isn't giving any helpful results.
Any ideas?
The webcam should work straight away if the laptop is new. And if updating/reinstalling the drivers doesn't work it's possible that the webcam is faulty. Check that there are no yellow exclamation marks in device manager, and try a linux live cd/usb to see if the webcam works in that
There is a yellow exclamation mark in device manager, its under Other devices and is named Unknown device.
After looking around I checked Show hidden devices I could see HD WenCam under Imaging devices but is is faded out and the status says that it isn't connected to the computer (Code 45)
It could still be that unknown device but it does sound like the webcam is possibly faulty
