I currently have an Athlon 64 x2 2.9GHz and 3 Gigs of ram running single channel.
I currently have a 120$ budget and was wondering is 5 gigs on dual channel a big improvement on 3 Gigs on single channel? or is should i get the Phenom II 550 black edition for the chance of the 2 extra cores?
My mobo accepts AM2, AM2+, and AM3 chipset. I'm also on DDR2 Rams.
In my opinion, buy the CPU.
Cpu.

just dont be upset when either your motherboard SB doesnt support core unlocking or it fails miserably

My mobo does support this. It has the ACC Feature. Also I'm know i paid for a dual core, I won't be upset if it failed, but just a bit disappointed.
And I play games on my computer, 3 Gigs of ram is enough right?
CPU as its future proof with having DDR 2 and 3 memory controllers, and the ram which is DDr2 is already outdated.
