bla bla bla give us money
9 fucking lines.
Bit overkill with the one billion.
9 fucking lines.
9 LINES OF PRECIOUS, DIGITAL GOOOLD! AND IT'S ALL MIIIINE! YOU CAN'T HAVE MY LINES OF CODE!
Year of Patent and Copyright wars 2012
"hey those are a few words I recognize, give me a billion to make me not-upset!" Whatever
Why the fuck is this being decided by a jury?
Google was found to have infringed Oracle's copyright on nine lines of Java code that is in Android
9 out of just over a million lines of code? Fuck off oracle.
How is this a valid lawsuit? What the fuck
What are the chances that they just wrote the code the same way? REALLY FUCKING HIGH ACTUALLY
Wasn't it decided not long ago that you can't copyright code?
I can tell you guys are programming copyright lawyers right off the bat If the claims were obviously bunk, this wouldn't be news
Wasn't it decided not long ago that you can't copyright code?
In Europe I think.
I can tell you guys are programming copyright lawyers right off the bat If the claims were obviously bunk, this wouldn't be news
You don't have to be a copyright lawyer to hold views on something. Shut up.
You don't have to be a copyright lawyer to hold views on something. Shut up.
Uninformed views at that
Uninformed views at that
Do you know how fucking easy it is to get nine lines of code to be the same? Let alone how fucking retarded it is to sue for a billion over nine lines of code? I take it you haven't ever developed professionally.
Year of Patent and Copyright wars 2012
It's a bloodbath for lawyers and companies, it's like world war 1, just with money.
Do you know how fucking easy it is to get nine lines of code to be the same? Let alone how fucking retarded it is to sue for a billion over nine lines of code? I take it you haven't ever developed professionally.
And there would have been a ruling against google if it was as simple as google using foo.bar() when java used it first You don't even know the code they're suing over
google should just buy them
The stolen code:
for (int i = 0; i < 10; i++)
But more seriously, I think that the 9 lines that Oracle has publicly claimed to be their's should be released to every software company in the world. Since the likely hood that someone used this code long before Oracle/Sun, everyone company that can find any of these lines of code in their software should all simultaneously sue Oracle for one billion dollars.
How the heck can specific lines be copyrighted? They must be some magical lines.
How the heck can specific lines be copyrighted? They must be some magical lines.

int x = 0; **/ © 2012 Oracle Corporation /**

And there would have been a ruling against google if it was as simple as google using foo.bar() when java used it first You don't even know the code they're suing over
You don't either, but you can't accomplish a whole lot with 9 lines of code so it's probably something fundamental, i.e. not complex. I bet they just copy-pasted variable names, which for all we know could have been intended as a homage to Oracle. There's a lot we don't know but what we do know is that it's highly unlikely that 9 lines of code can be grounds for copyright infringement.
