Total War: Shogun 2 low FPS?

I recently purchased Total War: Shogun 2, and I am finding it impossible to play, even on the lowest possible settings. I can run Crysis 2 on Very High at a steady 50-60 fps. I don't really understand why I'm getting a slideshow on this game. Any particular settings in the nvidia control panel I should adjust or something?

4 gigs ram
dual core 2.60 processor
GTX 260m (1 gig vram)
windows 7

Would help if you posted your stats, but shogun 2 is the game used to test systems nowadays, just like crysis used to be.
