I just built a rig for less than $800 with an AMD 8 core 8120, AM3+ mobo, 16gb ddr3 1600 ram, hd 6870, and all that jazz.

You can do better on $800, 2500k blows away the FX 8120, 16gb not necessary etc.

It doesn't blow it away, its on par with it and slower when the FX is OC'd, which is probably fine at 4.5ghz on air cooling, and depending on if you wanna spend $40 extra you can skip the extra 8gb

Are you factoring in power usage and the 2500K being overclocked to its reasonable limit?

Well the AMD sucks up a lot of power for some reason, but the 8150 is in between a 2500k and a 2600k, and while OC'd the 8120 is the same exact thing, so either or. I have a feeling there's some drivers or shit not allowing the 8 core to reach its potential, it just needs some tweaking. I use a lot of multi-threaded programs though, so that's why I'm gonna need it
