Hi, I've been looking to replace my old pc due to it being destroyed during a storm. I found a build on pcpartpicker that I kinda like and modified a bit. New: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/gnXZQV Old Pc: Gigabyte GA-B85_HD3 CORSAIR 750TX INTEL Core I5-4430 Haswell quadcore 3.0ghz G.SKILL ripjaw Z DDR3 16GB 2X 2TB WD HDs Logitech GS500s mouse old E Machine keyboard and an Asus DVD Burner all in a HAF X case I'm trying to part out the case and see if all I have to do is replace the fans and top I/O due to anything that was connected by usb was fried. Looking for any input on the new parts, a mechanical keyboard, and mouse. I would like something close to the power the old pc had or better. Thanks
Did your old PC not have a GPU? You're also not saying what you'd use the computer for, but for gaming, a GTX1070, and a 6600k should be pretty plenty, probably a healthy amount of triple A (Witcher 3, BF4, Overwatch) games will run on highest 60fps @1080p. BF1, Forza H3 and those kinds of graphical and processing(cpu) powerhouse games I don't think will do as well though. For safety you should check benchmarks for the games you're looking to play with the GPU. I haven't heard of that RAM maker, and well, RAM does last a long while. If it's made well. So I personally would go with a more recognized brand, like corsair, g.skill or Kingston. Unless you find plenty of good stuff about what you have on the list now, in which case you should go for it, since it's probably cheaper because of the discount. Same goes for the SSD, I'd just go for a more established brand, like Intel, or Kingston. The size/price of the water cooler seems pretty overpowered for a i5 Unlocked cpu. That'd be more suited for a top-of-the-line i7 overclocked already. So I'd get something smaller/cheaper. Now the motherboard. Do you really need SLI? Like really. I can't say, because I don't know what you're gonna use it for, but I don't think you will, and if you were planning to, I would suggest not to, If you're going to mostly game or of something that level. So you could skimp out on that a little bit. The HDD.. Theres basically the three makers; WD, Seagate and Toshiba. (And maybe samsung?) I haven't heard much of Toshiba except that it's used a fair bit, WD has for long been a staple for many, and me. So that seems mostly fine. For a Mechanical and mouse you really have to find your preference and research. I for one like clicky, so I've got MX blues (as for the keyboard, a CMSTORM Trigger Z II or 2 or whatever). And for a mouse I use a Steelseries Sensei Raw, and It works swell for a FPS. And both are pretty cheap since apparently they last pretty alright, but only time will tell. Everything else seems fine really. so that's my two cents.
I use team stuff at work and they are absolutely fine. Zeppelin on the other hand are total shit. Every other stick i see is dead.
Looks all good. The cooler is definitely overkill unless you're wanting to really get into overclocking, though that motherboard can't handle anything crazy anyways, I'd recommend a Hyper 212 EVO for a basic one. There are plenty of fantastic Noctua and Phantek coolers in the ~$60 range. I'd also recommend swapping that SSD for a Samsung 850 EVO.
