"designed to punish elected and administration officials who are working diligently to protect American jobs from foreign criminals."
What?
SOPA and PIPA was constantly in the news here in Iceland. They even mention sites like reddit. And of course wikipedia.
I bet that would never happen in the US, since the media companies there are owned by the people who came up with SOPA and PIPA to begin with.
Even reddit?
They've done something fucking good in their life for once

What in the actual fuck ? Reddit has literally saved lives through donations.
reddit is an amazing website.

Oh yea. Ignoring the millions of dollars they've donated to Doctors Without Borders. Yep. Reddit it obviously a dead beat site filled with losers.
I like how Wikipedia supplies the names and contact information for local congressman, but I hate the fact that I can't just look them up on Wikipedia to see what they're all about as I usually would do.

Not to mention the charity gaming streams. A starcraft stream raised over 30.000$ in 1 day. Purely for charity.

Doesn't wiki have a "Simple English" version? Maybe that can give you some links.
LOL My favorite porn site is protesting SOPA: www.xnxx.com
[t]http://puu.sh/dNya[/t]
Lapfox Trax's homepage.
Made me proud to see like, three or four comments on the facebook page from fans who found out about SOPA and took action because of this site's blackout.
Proves that every little bit counts.
I signed the petition on google straight away. Appears everything is going to plan. I'd love to see lamar and MAFIAA ignore THIS.
To get around the Wikipedia Blackout, use Noscript or just disable Javascript.
Just thought I'd say.
YTMND went down and I didn't know until just now, I just wanted to get my fix
WordPress have a petition for non-Americans
This is kind of annoying, considering just about everyone I know was well aware of SOPA at least a month ago. Also, how would Wikipedia be shut down as a result of SOPA coming into effect? It's a noble cause and all and I agree that SOPA needs to be stopped but half of the efforts against it are sensationalist bullshit.

Oh sorry I wasn't aware you and your friends knew about it already lemme just call up admins of wikipedia which is used by probably millions of less internet legislation aware users so they take the message down

Any site with user-submitted content could be held liable if any user uploaded or linked to copyrighted material
So if someone uploads a photo that they didn't take, Wikipedia can be sued
Or if someone links to The Pirate Bay in The Pirate Bay's article
To avoid this sites like Wikipedia would have to vet every upload and every edit containing a link before allowing it to go up, which would be hugely expensive, and since Wikipedia is funded only by donations, this would seriously fuck them over. A lot of foreign-language Wikipedia projects would probably have to close

The wording of the bill (as vague as it is) gave me the impression that the individual user who uploaded said photo or posted said link would be the one to be punished, not wikipedia itself, which would protect sites like wikipedia and youtube. Is this not the case?

Fair enough, all I'm saying is that news of SOPA is already pretty well-known throughout the mainstream public.

Yeah, man! Where else am I gonna get pictures of Fox opening his landing bay doors for Falco?
Aside from the rest of the internet, I mean.
Today's blackouts have made me aware of just how ignorant people were/are. I barely saw any coverage on this before hand, and it took wikipedia being blacked out for most folks to realize what happened. I mean, we (meaning facepunch) has know about this for a long time, but people in my dorm are all freaking out like this is a brand new threat or something.
